here it comes, there it goes
Dear blog it has been two weeks since my last post, since then i have danced several times , and flown a kite on a beach during bathing hours, please forgive me.....
We'll make it up. I swear.
The sun is shining quite bright for today's Groove on Grove. Today's all stars is american watercolor movement, with tow sets starting at 6 pm , you can predict some exeprimentalisms, but don't expect any repeats of the PADNA powerhouse fundraiser. If you can't make it today, mark your calenders for our August 1st Performance at reHab. Unfortunately, with todays beautiful weather, there is NOT a film at Van Vorst Park, but next wednesday "the namesake" plays at Sundown. For now you can head to Barrow Mansion for Trivia Night. DJ Eric Fuzco guests spins at the Lamp Post tonight. Rumor has it that a new PA will also be making it's debut.
Thursday's highlights are a couple of art openings, one at Cosi by Visual Artist NICOLE MARGARETTEN. Across the pond, Sebastian Masuellli exhibits in a group show at the Latin Collector on west 57th street. Also this Saturday, The Monroe Center in Hoboken Hosts POLITRIX this Saturday at 7pm. Check out this video below.
The Monroe Center will also host a fundraiser for Maladjusted, Misappropriated , which was just accepted to a place at the New York Fringe Festival in August. To celebrate and raise funds, Art House is having a party on Friday August 1st.
JC's Bridge and Pummel will skate against the newest addition to the Garden State Rollergirls League. the Hub City HellRazers. In what what is the most all inclusive dream package ever. For $20 you can get round trip shuttle service from the Hard Grove, admission to the bout as well as the pre-, and after parties. Wear your bathing suit underneath for when you get back...
Also looking ahead in the arts world. The City and Pro Arts are looking for additional artists for the CANco Lofts exhibition. The Official Opening Party will be at CANco. Contact Rebecca.proarts@gmail.com. I've attached her email below.
While making art is other people's passion, you know that my passion lies with making swimming pools. So with the Toy Eater's Space always in need of heat relief, what a better way to use the current space than to re-open the JC Swim Club. Here's what you need to know: Yes there will be a pool, yes you will need to be in a bathing suit to be allowed in (cut off jeans okay for you rockers, but please no f+cking cords!) . $10 donation covers your lifeguards. NO GLASS BOTTLES ALLOWED. Knock Hockey, Shuffle boards, boom box dj's. Bring flip flops and towel we will also have a tanning area is you need to brown up. The Pool will also be open on Monday and Tuesday for movies. JAWS, the DEEP, you know water and death stuff.
You can follow the next day by heading out to the Siren Festival at Coney Island, then catch Flaming Fire at Union Pool in Williamsburg or come home and catch the Swigs at Lucky Seven's.
I'll be dunking myself in the Hudson on Sunday, sometime in between games at Volleyball.

SIGMUND DROID
Hi,
Much is happening at the Flaming Fire compound this month. We've begun our new album with our longtime collaborator JZ Barrell, and will start to mixing four new songs this week. This wednesday, anthropologists will be hooking us up to wires during practice to measure our emotional responses during and after rehearsal (true! -- check out our new group headshrinkers at bandthropology.com) We're also starting to book our fall tour which will feature an eerie new stage show of mystical scuzzbagness, codenamed THE 3 COLUMNS OF THE REDNECK WIZARD, and if you know of a town or club we should play in, let us know! We're also looking around for some fun people to work with, see the postcript at the bottom.
AND...this Saturday, we're going to party down with a crazed dance-inducing freakout, with two of the most insane, fun and funky groups playing around Brooklyn! Who:
SERVICES - just got arrested in our old Omaha stomping-ground for having too much of a good time on stage (which is sadly, a lot easier in Nebraska than in it should be.) They're incredible live, and will induce you to also dance around like mad and have an have an unlawfully fun time.
http://www.myspace.com/services
SIGMUND DROID - garage punk disco on a frenzied, crazy level! Download their awesome, instant dance-party album for free:
http://www.toiletrecords.com/sigmunddroid/
Our set will also feature many amazing guest stars and new songs, including:
* Wilder Selzer (Double Dong, Kustard Cabaret) dancing around like a man possessed, bringing some extra bellow to the male vocal shouting and singing an FF song in a brand new way that will astound you!
* Natasha singing a new FF song about greek murderesses!
* Danny Tunnick ( FF alumni 2003, now of Barbez) throbbing out on conanistic percussion with our primary skin-pounder Sarah Blust!
* a rousing FF barn-stomping march regarding the sweet trembling fear of God, stars, pyramids, goats and corn!
If you don't start dancing around at this show, you're probably dead. Which is cool, we're not prejudiced. See you on Saturday!
Love,
Patrick
P.S. Flaming Fire is really interested in working with new folks, particularly folks with cool new ideas about staging and costuming, or professional music stuff we don't understand. Also: yodelers, really deep voiced people, and motorcyclists/scooterists who will ride around with us, since we're all just getting our permits now (190 mpg on a Honda Cub, can't beat it). If you have any suggestions, email patrick@flamingfire.com and let me know!

Things are on for today's 4th of July BBQ. I left two boxes of beef patties at Shop Rite but I put out the word to get some meat back. We'll be about one to set things up. I got the beef bbq and Ken is striking up the veggie broiler. As far as I know the things we need this time would be a macaroni salad. Give me a call at 973-219-9696 for some suggestions. Otherwise a safe bet would be beer.

The Week in Renew, Review and Preview
wow that happened quickly... Toyeaters closed down last week. It seems that Frank Sinatra's nephew came through on his promise and forced the crew to flee to places North, West and East. Things must have been pretty crazy as the largest collection of adult magazines was left behind. Gods Speed Toy Eaters we will miss you..........
In their wake, the Toy Eaters space is something Lex is looking to continue as a community performance space, there are two rooms available for living/creating ($800/$850). Ideal for an artist/promoter type. Contact lex@lexleonardgallery.com (the full email is below)
The weather is stellar, so I am heading out to the beach today, but will return to set things up for the Groove on Grove performance at 6 pm. Today's band is Contramano, Argentinian band based our of Brooklyn. There is no movie tonight at Van Vorst park, but things roll again with the Princess Bride on July 9th. It will be a triple header with both Well Baby and the 1 and 9's playing at Grove Street. By tonight, you may want to get your weekend in full swing, with the July 4th Holiday falling on Friday, Wednesday is the new Thursday and since some of you may have summer Fridays, Thursday would then become the new Friday. Either way, here's what for you.

ART SPACES FOR RENT!Details and terms:There are THREE rooms available on the first floor of the 143 Building, which houses Lex Leonard Gallery. The layout:Three rooms, one large communal area, one large kitchen and 1.5 restrooms. Two of the rooms are of decent size with two windows each. The third room is small and has its own toilet (perfect for office or micro studio). The communal area is to be used as gallery, arts programming and performance area by both tenants and other members of the arts community at the discretion of gallery director (yours truly) and tenants of this floor. The communal area will be laid out and managed in the same fashion as Lex Leonard Gallery - professionally and uber neat. The main focus of this space and 143 as a whole is art as it relates to community enrichment. The rooms are to be used as studios, but the communal area exists for the purpose of art programming for the community. Daily activity such as occasional play rehearsals/readings, poetry readings, art openings, workshops, photo shoots and the likes should be expected and shouldn't interfere with tenant use of private space and communal facilities. If you've been to Lex Leonard Gallery then you'll know what to expect. This is a great opportunity for that artist or craftsperson that's looking to be part of a true community oriented arts space. Rates are reasonable. Great opportunity to earn extra income as a tenant as well. Available as of July 15!If seriously interested reply to this posting asap.Thank you.

Hey,
For the first time, we're going to play one of our favorite, most exciting sets ever: Lemon Incest live, Dark Night live, Summertime live, all sorts of songs that we used to just do with a sampler. And lots of new ones. Because the instrumental folks in our band have grown mutantly proficient and groovy! We are proud, but also frightened by their growing genius and coldly burning all-seeing eyes. Will do requests at the end, just because we never have before.
San Francisco's Borts Minorts are Lauren's favorite band ever, and completely insane. We played with them and we will never, ever forget them. You will never forget them! DON'T MISS THEM! ART WEIRDNESS TO THE HIGHEST, SCARIEST AND AWESOMEST DEGREE. Nothing will prepare you for their live show:http://www/. myspace.com/bortsminorts
Also, White Hills are a monstrously fun, epic Hawkwind mindtrip: http://www.myspace.com/whitehills
Finally, come on out on Saturday to Lauren's comic book signing for her scifi masterpiece "Goddess of War!," a psychedelic epic bringing together astral travel, Norse Gods, American history, planetary carnage, Mayan sacrifice and erotic time loops! It may be the best comic book ever written. Based on Lauren's FF hit, "Goddess of War." Signing will also feature free beer! It's at Rocketship, 208 Smith Street, Brooklyn at 8pm.

If anyone knows of it's whereabouts please get in touch .eto305 815 3149eto@esorogallery.com

Father's Day Volleyball is on.
Volleyball is on for today - Father's Day.
For future reference follow these rules.
It is never too hot for volleyball - but you should bring extra water to keep hydrated.
We don't play in steady rain, but if there are isolated storms or occasional showers we will most likely play. Rain can be refreshing when it's over 80 degrees.
We set up around 1:30 - if I am running late call me on my cell 973-219-9696 and I will up date you on how loading my car with the net, the radio, water, a cooler and my dog(s) are coming.
Can I bring alcohol to the park ? Park rules prohibit alcohol. But police officers have never inspected the contents of red plastic cups to my knowledge. ie don't flaunt it.
Do you bbq every week ? Usually on special occasions. Like Holidays. Such as July 4th, but if you are planning bringing food to cook so you may also want to plan to bring a bbq to cook it on and stuff to share.
How much does it cost to play volleyball ? Volleyball is free to play, but offering to chip in to bring something for everyone to share makes good neighbors. In addition, we plan to upgrade our net this year so I will be expecting contributions from everyone to cover the costs.
Do I have to be a professional to play volleyball ? Although we have been playing for years , you only need to be courteous and try your best to play.
I play professionally can I play ? of course. It is simple, we play to have fun in a competitive way. There is no trophy at the end of the season, so the best you can end up with is new friends. If you want something more competitive join the Spike League in Hoboken. Keep in mind that this is for fun and we don't have a referee so it is important to play fair.
How are teams chosen. I do my best to mix things up using a non-traditional way of randomizing teams. Sometimes you may have to wait before you can play. I do my best to get everyone in on playing with one net.

Hello,

Fire up the Grill, My Fever is Gone
Who ever thought that having a stomach virus wasn't productive? , tell me a better way to loose 10 pounds in three days ? I dare you !!! And just in time as the summer grills get cleaned off I will have room for your best char broilers. With the weather so nice, I am sorry to say that I will not, and thankfully do not have to spend a lot of sunny time updating for the weekend. Why ? because most of you have fled town.
For those of you who chart the course of the less obvious. JC and specifically Toy Eaters will not disappoint. Tonight. The full run of JC's Country inspired or influenced bands play. Newest to cross into this realm is the AAA Locksmith and Bailbonds. Featuring members of Flaming Fire and the Boyfriends). I have read word about Kamikaze Square Dancers for this ho down. I have to find my other cowboy boot for this. Any Day Parade, The Poconos, and WJ and the Sweet Sacrifice, who are returning from North Carolina will be there kids. On Sunday Night, The Poconos, reprise with Lismore. As Part of the Horror Prom. DJ's Leonard Smalls and Caligula Spin your bloody corsets afterwards.
At the Lamp Post Tara Elliot and the Red Velvets play. I don't know who they are but I will tell you that just mentioning Red Velvet has a tingling sensation on me. http://www.myspace.com/taraelliottblues okay here's the link for the sights and sounds. Damn MySpace wouldn't let me look at the pictures without signing in ???
Also on the inside. My Room Mate DJ Bill is at O'Connell's on Saturday Nights and then at Lucky's on Sunday Nights. This Sunday of course should be most extreme with the Federal Government shutting down on Monday.
You can also take a jaunt into the Big City for a "Celebration of Art House Productions" at the famed ABC NoRio this Sunday at 7pm. ABC NoRio is located at 156 Rivington St. between Clinton/Suffolk. Art House pRoduction Founder, Christine Goodman will perform with two nationally-recognized poets, Dujuana Sharese of Cypher Movement and Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai of HBO's Def Poetry Jam.
On the outside, there should be numerous picnics and bbq's that I am sure you have gotten invite for. If you are stuck on something to bring besides beer. Try I nice pop-up dispenser of handy wipes. I love these things. Not only do they keep your hands nice and clean, you should also consider buying the flushable styles to keep your area south of the equator safe from Malaria or other unpleasantries.
On Sunday, you can be a good guest at the Ese Oro Gallery on Brunswick. The new Bama exzhibit is up and the back yard will be open. NOTE: This is a BYOB and BYOM/V affair. So if the only question you know is where's the food and drink it's not your destination (see Tuesdaya Mayors Block Party below) Things start at three.
Now that we've got your amenities settled, personally I will be setting up the volleyball net on MONDAY. I'd love to get so shout-in on who is going to bring a BBQ because I just scrapped last years in the trash on Wednesday. We will also need so volunteers for food so I will keep my ear to the ground. Mind you I don't plan to personally starve, so I'll have some starter stuff. Anyone who would like to set up the net on Sunday can contact me for the net.
Keeping the Picnics going. I will Be DJ-ing the Mayor's Block Party for Ward E at Hamilton Park on Tuesday. The Event runs from 5:30 pm to 8 pm. The event is for the residents and features plenty of family friendly stuff, Magicians, Bean Bag Tosses, Clowns, Sponge Bob, you get it as well as Representatives from every one of the City Departments. Even the Parking Authority is there !!! Please come by and give me a reason not to play the Macarena. This is a tough one :)

All Hail the Queen
First thanks everyone who came out to the PADNA Benefit. I heard that they raised a good deal of cash, or at least enough to pay for one day's worth of attorney time (lunch included). There where still about 1000 posters left when American Watercolor Movement's set changed into a gypsy drum rebellion. The Meltdowns and Tremble in the Heat rocked it, even if my PA and I started imploding. And sorry if I beat you on on the raffle :) I promise to put the gift certificates to good use.
Alright, in an effort to elevate my Amsterdam trip to awesome, Amsterdance 08 is this Saturday. They are still cleaning up in the Netherlands, which celebrated this Holiday yesterday. Tomorrow, Bar Majestic and The Merchant get a jump on Cinco de Mayo with their annual block party. My Roomie, DJ William McCamie spins all day. Party starts on the streets at 4pm. The after party finishes at Lucky 7's.
But Let me get back to Saturday because it is shit-loaded full. After you wake up. Head to Art House Productions to audition for their summer presentation of Sea Story. Have a 2-minute monologue and a good head shot ready to go. After they tell you that we'll give you a call, Head up to CANco lofts for PROarts Cash Bash. Cheap Art and music from 4 to 8 pm. $10 admission (one raffle ticket). Music by the Meltdowns. When that lets out. Head over to Newark for the Garden State Roller Girls Recruitment Party at Hell's Kitchen. After yo get fitted for fishnets, head over to Maxwell's for Any Day Parade, or (or both ? - hey do it all!!) you can go to the JCLGO White Party . Okay enough of me promoting other people's events. get your own blog :)....

My Dear Friends,It's pretty cool that some of you are actually sending me /pointed/ queries asking about the next show. We're playing this Saturday in Jersey City at Canco Lofts, 50 Dey St, at 7pm. We're playing for THREE HOURS. Craziness. I don't know what mad man thought this was a good idea (*cough *tris *cough), but we're very excited about it. Hoping you can make it. It's a fund raiser for the Center of Arts in Hudson County, there will be an art auction, and snacks! We'll do a 45 minute electric set, then Adam and I are going to do a 45 minute open-dork-night acoustic thing where we try out new stuff and holler some of our favorite tunes, and then we'll wrap it up with a second electric set. Details for the show are in the attached flier.Other cool stuff:We're doing an in-store performance at Permanent Records, a great music shop in the Greenpoint nabe of Brooklyn on Sat May 10th, at 3pm: 181 Franklin St. All ages, free, a fun time, you should come. We'll be playing downstairs at the Laundromat on Thu May 22nd in North Carolina as part of WE Fest, which should be pretty rad.And we'll be coming back to Clash Bar to throw down with the Imperialists on Thur May 29th. We're playing Bar Matchless in Greenpoint on Sat May 31st! (Free, 21+)Then it's off to Knoxville, TN in June, with hopefully a layover in C-ville, VA. I need to get on that.Lastly, we've been writing a lot of new material and are gearing up to put together an EP or two, or three over the course of the Summer.Hey, check out Black Whales from Seattle, they're totally tits: http://www.myspace.com/blackwhalesAnd check out Andrew's crazy bike ride: http://www.teacherontwowheels.comLove and kisses,Billy--http://www.myspace.com/themeltdowns
