Ready to be shown a way (to have a good time) ?

Whoa Big week. Tonight, I am dj'ing at the Lamp Post. (The picture at the right is my friend Sally, actually she was everyone's friend last Tuesday in the Make Out Lounge). I'll post the assorted mess next update. The weather is nice tonight, so why don't you come down and see her.

Tomorrow Night we have the 3rd installement of Blackhole Wednesday. at 58. With all of the recent Press, Melissa has decided to really put the pressure on St. Patrick and ask him to marry. I am just as excited about attending my second bachealorette party !! Doors @ 8pm. Check out Melissa's Blog Fear and Dread, Guilt and Shame. Reading it should make you feel better about your life.

After Wednesday Night, I get a couple of days to clean up before our ALL AGES : SAT MAT affair. Jupiter One, Up the Empire, Particle Zoo, and now joining the fray is The Meltdowns , unfortunatly the flute player from "tba" broke his hand, luckily the Meltdowns were able to come through. Afterwards, I will be defending my iPOD DJ belt at LITM . I will be on at midnight. If you are interested in joining the contest, you can email parties@litm.com. Afterwards, I'll be heading up to the Corkscrew to wish Alix a warm goodbye as she really leaves us for England. DJ Steet Justice and Alix are spinning it.

_gaia is also looking for submissions for their “Elvis on the Hudson” One Act play series. Check their link to the right or scroll way down for the details. Yes, it’s Elvis Related.

Mana Fine Arts is pleased to host Mother of God: A Wonder Women Project presented by _gaia. The exhibition and residency explores notions of feminism, spirituality, historical iconographies, and contemporary art practice. The show brings together nine emerging artists from the New York/New Jersey area, invited to participate in the six-week residency at _gaia studio in Hoboken, New Jersey. The exhibition aims to examine and critique the societal, personal, and collective experiences of feminism and the history of organized religion.
The mother of a deity is an apt topic for a _gaia residency, sharing a consideration for feminism in all aspects of society. In critiquing the dominant role of biblical stories in western art, the Wonder Women residency remained committed to exploring feminism in this context. Many of the projects developed for this exhibition embrace a visual history that addresses Mary?s indispensable position in the pantheon of biblical characters. An instrumental part of the residency was the collection of texts brought to meetings each week.?Letter to a Christian Nation, by Sam Harris and?Erring: A Postmodern A/Theology,?by Mark C. Taylor, among other texts were both a catalyst and inspiration for discussion. By critiquing religious structures, the resident artists opened a dialogue about the existence of one all-powerful, all-knowing god, the gods and goddesses of polytheism and a universal understanding of motherhood.
?
Mother of God coincides with the year long Feminist Art Project. The purpose of the Feminist Art Project is to bring public attention to the significant and continuing impact of women and their art on all aspects of contemporary art practice, highlighting their international influence, and guaranteeing their inclusion in the cultural record, past, present, and future.

Classic NOIR Cinema At The Loew's Jersey - This Friday & Saturday, M

Tue Mar 27, 2007 8:45 am (PST)
Ask someone off-handedly what to expect in a Hollywood block-buster,and they are likely to include Technicolor and a happy ending. Butmovies of the Film Noir genre belie this – they are black and white, dark literally and metaphorically, with characters that are deeplyflawed if not outright criminal, and they don't have happy endings.Yet some of the best known films of all time are Film Noir. And threeof the best Noir movies will be shown at the Loew's on March 30 & 31.Double Indemnity – Friday, March 30 at 8PMStarring Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray, Edward G. Robinson.Directed by Billy Wilder. (1944, 107mins., B&W, Paramount. Predatesrating system, but may not be suitable for children.) Double Indemnityrepresents the high-water mark of 1940s film noir urban crime dramasin which a greedy, weak man is seduced and trapped by a cold, evilwoman amidst the dark shadows and Expressionist lighting of modern cities. There will be a brief introduction to the film, and a Q&A sessionafterwards by Charles Stanton, devotee of and expert in the Film Noirgenre.Out of the Past – Saturday, March 31 at 4PMStarring Robert Mitchum, Jane Greer, Kirk Douglas, Rhonda Fleming.Directed by Jaques Tourneur. (1947, 97mins, B&W, RKO, Predates ratingsystem, but may not be suitable for children.) Out of the Past is soperfect a Film Noir that it is considered practically a textbookexample of the genre. Robert Mitchum, who was cast after both JohnGarfield and Dick Powell turned down the part of Jeff Bailey, wonpraise for his first starring role. Kirk Douglas and Jane Greer as thelethal femme fatale both also turned in great performances.Sunset Boulevard – Saturday, March 31 at 7:30PMStarring Gloria Swanson, William Holden and Erich Von Stroheim.Directed by Billy Wilder. (1950, 110mins, B&W, Paramount. Predatesrating system, but may not be suitable for children.) In itscinematography, style and dark outlook, Sunset Boulevard is classicNoir. But the film's main characters are not the detectives, gangstersand typical vamps who inhabit most Noir movies. Instead, the moviepresents the users and used in show business, and is a scathing satireof Hollywood and the cruel fickleness of movie fame. Director Wilderturned Hollywood history back on itself by casting silent film starGloria Swanson as aging silent diva Norma Desmond and the great silentdirector Erich von Stroheim as her. There will be an introduction and discussion of the film by Dr. FosterHirsh, Professor of Film at Brooklyn College and author of 16 books onfilm and theatre including "The Dark Side of the Screen: Film Noir."Dr. Hirsh is also the host for American Film Institute tributes in NewYork. Each screening is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors & children 12 yearsold and younger. Combo discounts for two or more screenings areavailable.

digital vs. analog on digital

Last Sunday, I got to check out Rebecca Vallejo’s Sounds of Brazil in the cozy back room of Bar Majestic. I sat alone, only to find I was amongst friends, check her out if you can. it's from 8 to 10 pm.

Well we finally have some good weather for a Tuesday Night. Maybe it’s God’s way of saying “Hey I’m sorry I broke your CD mixer”. Not to worry though, because tonight it’s going to be digital vs. analog at the Lamp Post. That’s right, I am going Half iPod – Half Vinyl, so if you are stopping by, you can bring either your iPOD or your 45 of Careless Whisper. My next DJ gig is an open contest at L.I.T.M.’s iPOD DJ competition on Saturday Night. If you are interested in the contest, contact info@litm.com I’ll be stopping by in my green giant regale to rock it out.

Speaking of St. Patrick’s, we are NOT having a party @ 58. We are leaving it up to the professionals to deal with amateurs. The Super Karaoke Fun Time Band plays at Iron Monkey and Higgins is at The Cork screw. DJ Lex is spinning at The Lamp Post along with the Real Meal Deal of Corned Beef and Cabbage.

This Thursday at 58, we open up the 99 cent dream store with works by Maurizio Zuluaga. Things start at 7 pm, and we will complement the art opening with discount dollar delights from the store of the same name, even though we are cheap, we are throwing in a couple of extra hours at the end for some music. Unfortunately, DJ Small Change was not asked to play. He was too expensive. (slander)

Jersey City's WFMU is on their second week of fundraising. Tonight, Ted Leo visits Tom Sharpling’s Best Show on The Radio to do some Pay to Play Love, It’s like go-go bars no Tip no Touch policy. You can catch it live on their webcam at http://www.wfmu.org/ and on a thing called the radio at 91.1 FM. Or if you really want to help, you can also volunteer to man their phones during the marathon. The marathon ends up with a DJ-Staff Live Band Karaoke Party on Sunday Night and also feature's Yo La Tengo's Pay to Play performance this Friday Night from 8 to 11 pm. FYI their office has Asteriods in it.

Art House Production’s run of Camino Real runs until the end of the month, check it out, there’s almost 30 actors in the adaptation: http://www.arthouseproductions.org/ for ticket information.

If you are you looking for gigs and that a-hole at 58 doesn’t have space to book you? Don’t take it personally, you can always try Matt at Lucky 7’s, he’s looking for a few acoustic acts (singer/songwriters 1-2 people max) to play weekly at lucky 7s. And you can contact him here mdiggedy@yahoo.com. Or if you are a full band try contacting Seany Fitz at the Lamp Post seanyfitz32@aol.com for Saturday Nights or you can also contact Augie from for gigs at the Iron Monkey augie@njspeedcrazy.com on Friday and Saturday Nights. Also the Corkscrew is featuring solo artists on Monday Nights.

Hello All!
Mark your calendars, call your cousins, tell each other...a wonderful billing is coming to the new Luna Lounge! The Luna is now located in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn (some may remember the old location at Ludlow, on the Lower East Side). This new venue is much bigger (300+ capacity), featuring more national & international acts, as well as the great ol' local music. Easy to get to; there's not a bad viewing spot inside.
Check it out --> http://www.lunalounge.com/
Having such good music all night long we intend to fill the joint up, with YOU! Come on out and enjoy a Spring Saturday in Williamsburg.
It's a happening neighborhood, with lots to do and really good places to eat. Vintage clothing anyone? Come early, stay later, dig in!

missle test

Okay, three steps into this blog world, and I can already tell you I need a good recomendation on a more functional blog. I'll pay for it if I have to ! just please give me somthing I can cut and paste and i'm a happy (blog)man. Maybe just a tutor would do ?

Speaking of needing help, Jersey City's WFMU began their fundraising marathon on Monday. They are here on the net www.wfmu.org and on a thing called the radio at 91.1 FM. Or if you really want to help, you can also volunteer to man their phones during the marathon. The marathon ends up with an DJ-Staff Live Band Karaokee Party and also feature's Yo La Tengo's Pay to Play performance. FYI their office has Asteriods in it.

Dear Friends,
Thanks to all who came out to my opening on the 15th. You have a few more chances to see my work and meet with me. This coming Friday, March 2nd, the gallery will be open from 7pm to 10pm. I am scheduled to give an “artist talk” about the exhibition at 8pm.
I will also be gallery sitting on the weekend days of the March 3rd, 4th and 10th from noon to 5pm. FYI, the exhibition has been extended for one more week. Come by, keep me company and bring coffee or mimosas! Hope you to see more of you there.
ALSO, please check out the much procrastinated NEW updates on my website. Yes it true…new images, resume, and statements. On the home page you can click on the links available for 58 Gallery and the JC Friday events for March 2nd.
See you soon,
