so did I miss anything ? or Return to Scandalville or this weekend we are goingto have the biggest art and music scene until October

Yeah so we heard the news while we were at the Merge Records 20th Anniversary . I can't believe that you can't wear backwards baseball caps at Zeppelin Hall after 9pm !!!! Killer dood. We also heard something about some North Jersey Politicians getting arrested, but just figured it was a rumor or something and pushed on with the Kickball Tournament I had set up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Guys, this was a great test run for the new double or nothing rule and the summer heat made the water-ballons feel so nice. I've got room for a couple of more teams for the Jersey City Summer Scrummage Saturday the 8th. Email me at rockitdocket@gmail.com or text me at 973-219-9696 to get in and on it.

Technically, I am still on vacation, but I the blog is back just in time for the Jersey City Council meeting Wednesday at 10 am ( It's their summer schedule) . And even though it's an inconvenient time for our commuting residents (personal day anyone ?) maybe it's good if it starts early, just in case it runs all night. Beforehand, residents and members of One Jersey City have planned a 9 am rally on the steps of City Hall. Dan Levin, who ran mayor on the One Jersey City Ticket has called for the resignations of the Mayor, Council President Mariano Vega and new elected Councilwomen Flores. You can read more about history unfolding at the Jersey City Independent, New Jersey Online, or the Hudson Reporter, or just pick up the Jersey Journal. Things are so crazy that, in light of the recent corruption scandal, the NJ-ACLU is hosting a Happy Hour Thursday Night at Oddfellow's in Hoboken.

Clearly looking to capitalize on the recent scandal, Melissa Surach's Babyhole runs tonight at the IMAC. She will be alternating Tuesdays with the Rolando Ramos's Other Jam. Check their website for more info. Singer and songwriters can multi croon with Kevin Spyker Talent Show nights at the Lamp Post and you can just watch them at Luckys on Tuesday Night. I think it s Tip Canary, De Vito Night.

Tomorrow, after the dust settles at City Hall, you all come by for some Grooving and Groving with the One and Nines and their side project Kiwi the Child, Kiwi starts forst at 6 pm. The One and Nines also play O'Hara on Friday Night. Thursday Night, The McMickle Brothers, Tip Canary and The Porchistas play Hoboken. While they return to Jersey City on Friday for a show with Bern and the Brights at IMAC. Also on Saturday Night, Twilight Procession plays with Neutron Drivers at the Lamp Post.

On the art side, Mr. Afternoon's Funtastic Figure Drawing debuts at the Lex Leonard Gallery this Thursday. On Saturday, 58's closing reception for Ian Kauli'i Ephemera will be at 58 at 7 pm and Balance also has a art reception for some new works from 6 to 9 pm. On Tuesday, I'll be DJ-ing the Cool Blue Art Opening at LITM

But as we all know the tents have been pitched and they are starting to build stages for the All Points West Festival. If you haven't gotten a ticket yet, don't worry, Craigslist has plenty of discounted deals and if you have space, maybe you want to host an out of towner. Have the come in early for JCDJ's Indie Rockus and APW pre party at the Lamp Post. On Saturday I'll be chilling with Leonard Smalls for Luckys After Pints West after Party. My Roommate Bill McCamie has the decks at the White Star this Saturday Night. On Sunday he's back at Lucky's.

check CNN for updates :)

Jesse Caldwell (no relationship to Jesse "Caligula" and Charlie are at the Lamppost this Thursday.

You can also catch afro beaters , Chico Mann at Santos Party House tonight. Ok I also wanted to mention that Patrick from Flaming Fire is playing solo tonight at Glasslands. Hey,
Here's my first (last?) ever solo show. I'll be performing songs from my solo album, (3,000,000 Rejected Operas) which pretty much everyone universally hates. As in, most of my friends hate it. People who like my band hate it. People in my band hate it. Radio stations and reviewers politely ignore it. You'll probably hate it too: listen to some songs here:
http://www.myspace.com/patrickhambrecht
Speaking of hate, I personally hate it when people are all all-shucksy about their stuff so that you have to say something nice about it. But I'd actually feel weird going "YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE THIS!" when, seriously, I doubt it. You just won't. The only people I know in NYC who actually like this thing are Kate, Sean (of Flowers of Flesh and Blood) who set up this show, Danny Tunnick who's playing drums with me, and a couple record-collector nerds who don't go to shows or rarely leave their own houses. Olympia's KAOS have played a couple tracks, but Olympia (god bless 'em) is the home of all things "homemade" and these particular lofi anthems about God and girls are too bedroom-recording/dorky to go over anywhere else.
So, consider it an act of gross narcissism, because I've always been really fond of these songs, and perversely, I'm pretty excited and happy about finally playing them live even while anticipating a less-than positive audience response. If you ever saw Flaming Fire back in 2000, this'll be sorta like that -- raw and sludgy, with chopped-up atmospheric soundtracks as the band with backing drums. The band consists of Danny Tunnick on drums, samples, and me singing. I'll have 5 homemade painted albums that you can buy after the show.
Details below!
Love,Patrick

And thanks again to Tree and her parade for coming through. Saturday Night we had planned on hosting a CD Release Party for Lushlife but it appears that the city can only tolerate so much art. If you are city bound, Get Grand at the Tribecca Grand with The Golden Filter with Penny and Stephen who buried their former band because Love is more.

First, thank you! to all of the huddled masses that came out for last weekend for the American Idols Dylan Egon Closing party and the Fireworkout BBQ at Morris Canal. America's best days may lie ahead but the nights were quite grand. Oh and Did I say thank you for coming to Peter Bill's Opening at LITM on Tuesday? Yes. Kind of.

Times have changed, and so has our exhibit at 58. Ian Kauli'i's new works : Ephemera hosts a combination of installation works and mixed medium pieces (nothing electronic here folks) . Ian's works are the combination of a sharp knife, a strong mind and a heavy heart, come by after 7 pm for the opening. Doze Green is scheduled for some DJ time and Tree from Any Day Parade has assembled an ensemble of songs and musicians for an 9 pm performance. Her guests included John Shell, Chuck Daly, Nick & Pat Byrne (DJ Lucha) and Patricia. Afterwards, I am holding a He-Man Women Hater Club Meeting at the Lamp Post. Ladies can head over to Luckys Seven . There shall be not mingling with the opposite sex after 10 pm Thursdays from now on.

Besides his DJ and a musical talents, Pat Byrne's hosts "THE UPSET TRIANGLE COMEDY HOUR" Friday 9:30pm @ the Peoples Improve Theater. If you are heading into the city, or heading away from it. Art House Muse Christine Goodman is the featured performers at Cornelia's Street Cafe , Son of a Pony Open Mic Series. Thing start at 6pm. You can also get your laughs at home on Friday. The Stockinette is hosting a Comedy Night with 7 seven comedians for $3. It's a BYOB event, just don't forget to bring your laughs. My Saintly Namesake, St. Anthony Church, New Jersey's oldest Polish Parish begins their annual festival on Friday. Music, Raffles and strangely enough, some of the best rice balls await you, your stomach, and the kids. The Festival runs all weekend and can not be missed if you are on the corner of Monmouth and sixth.

Summer and outdoors are really theming up. the Creative Grove art Market on Fridays is blooming, we got our first noise (music) complaint at Groove on Grove, and it looks like battling the summer heat with cold beer at the new Zeppelin Beer Garden is the way to go. Lucky Seven's hosts their second annual BBQ this Saturday with music by The One and Nines, The Poconos, Julia Hattigan & the Hooligans, Tip Canary, Steve Clark, Pray for the Wanderer, and WJ w/o the Sweet Sacrifice all play. Leonard Smalls and Rocker Tycoon DJ the rest of of the Night. The Punk Nationous Polyabuse , and Strange Things done in the Midnight Sun are at the Lamp Post. Crewman Number Six, The Embracers, and Natch!, Copesetic are at IMAC Saturday Night. Next Thursday at IMAC, Cootah and I are hosting a special Thursday Night show. The night starts early at 8:45 with Heather Duby, who has performed with Minus the Bear, She is followed by Finest Dearest from San Francisco and Palmyra from Brooklyn. Don't worry that schedule still give you enough time to get back to Second Street.

Not that I am done with Saturday yet, because we are hosting a special CD release Party for Lushlife at 58. This is a private event, so if you want in just mention the word "please or hello".

Sunday-Funday let's see if we could get that one back. Volleyball starts at 1 pm. Also athlete's the Kickball Game is on for August 8th get your teams ready to roll.
