Again thank to everyone who came out to Ian's opening last night at 58 , we will get the pictures if his work shortly so you can see the show. or stop by the gallery Fridays or Saturday or make an appointment with orlando@fifty8.com . And thanks again to Tree and her parade for coming through. Saturday Night we had planned on hosting a CD Release Party for Lushlife but it appears that the city can only tolerate so much art. So you can catch the CD Release Party at Maxwells instead, doors are at 10 pm and Lushlife plays around 11. If you are city bound, Get Grand at the Tribecca Grand with The Golden Filter with Penny and Stephen who buried their former band because Love is more.

If you are staying put, The Vinyl Solution returns from our Happy Birthday American Hiatus this Saturday with Neil McCoy and Billy Filo on the decks at the White Star. You can catch some jazz at Made with Love at 8pm. check out my earlier posts for outer stuff, this is just an update.

First, thank you! to all of the huddled masses that came out for last weekend for the American Idols Dylan Egon Closing party and the Fireworkout BBQ at Morris Canal. America's best days may lie ahead but the nights were quite grand. Oh and Did I say thank you for coming to Peter Bill's Opening at LITM on Tuesday? Yes. Kind of.

Times have changed, and so has our exhibit at 58. Ian Kauli'i's new works : Ephemera hosts a combination of installation works and mixed medium pieces (nothing electronic here folks) . Ian's works are the combination of a sharp knife, a strong mind and a heavy heart, come by after 7 pm for the opening. Doze Green is scheduled for some DJ time and Tree from Any Day Parade has assembled an ensemble of songs and musicians for an 9 pm performance. Her guests included John Shell, Chuck Daly, Nick & Pat Byrne (DJ Lucha) and Patricia. Afterwards, I am holding a He-Man Women Hater Club Meeting at the Lamp Post. Ladies can head over to Luckys Seven . There shall be not mingling with the opposite sex after 10 pm Thursdays from now on.

Besides his DJ and a musical talents, Pat Byrne's hosts "THE UPSET TRIANGLE COMEDY HOUR" Friday 9:30pm @ the Peoples Improve Theater. If you are heading into the city, or heading away from it. Art House Muse Christine Goodman is the featured performers at Cornelia's Street Cafe , Son of a Pony Open Mic Series. Thing start at 6pm. If this is enough Carrot for your wild bunnies you should also check out DJ William McCamie's Deep Sounds Fridays at Bar 13. The Roof top is open are you ?

You can also get your laughs at home on Friday. The Stockinette is hosting a Comedy Night with 7 seven comedians for $3. It's a BYOB event, just don't forget to bring your laughs. If you are interested in performing send a illiterate death threat or whatever you shtick is to younerjry at yahoo dot com This Monthly comedy will run every second Friday with the exception of the Friday after Thanksgiving which usually falls on the Third or fourth Friday anyway. For you open mic comedian's Melisa Surach's Babyhole Comedy now runs every other Tuesday , this upcoming one being one of them, at her new home the IMAC ,
On Friday Night Particle Zoo, Temporary Basement (DC), & Cicada Radio play at the IMAC.

My Saintly Namesake, St. Anthony Church, New Jersey's oldest Polish Parish begins their annual festival on Friday. Music, Raffles and strangely enough, some of the best rice balls await you, your stomach, and the kids. The Festival runs all weekend and can not be missed if you are on the corner of Monmouth and sixth.

Summer and outdoors are really theming up. the Creative Grove art Market on Fridays is blooming, we got our first noise (music) complaint at Groove on Grove, and it looks like battling the summer heat with cold beer at the new Zeppelin Beer Garden is the way to go. Lucky Seven's hosts their second annual BBQ this Saturday with music by The One and Nines, The Poconos, Julia Hattigan & the Hooligans, Tip Canary, Steve Clark, Pray for the Wanderer, and WJ w/o the Sweet Sacrifice all play. Leonard Smalls and Rocker Tycoon DJ the rest of of the Night. The Punk Nationous Polyabuse , and Strange Things done in the Midnight Sun are at the Lamp Post. Crewman Number Six, The Embracers, and Natch!, Copesetic are at IMAC Saturday Night. Next Thursday at IMAC, Cootah and I are hosting a special Thursday Night show. The night starts early at 8:45 with Heather Duby, who has performed with Minus the Bear, She is followed by Finest Dearest from San Francisco and Palmyra from Brooklyn. Don't worry that schedule still give you enough time to get back to Second Street.

Not that I am done with Saturday yet, because we are hosting a special CD release Party for Lushlife at 58. This is a private event, so if you want in just mention the word "please or hello".

Sunday-Funday let's see if we could get that one back. Volleyball starts at 1 pm. Also athlete's the Kickball Game is on for August 8th get your teams ready to roll.

The threat of rain postponed The Film at Van Vorst , the Visitor to next next Wednesday. As far as I know nothing prevented Kevin Spkyer DJ Purple Stuff at the Lamp Post tonight (W) , DJ Sup Babes is at Luckys and DJ Birbal has relocated Give the Drummer to the Star Bar on Wednesday

I have been besides artists and craftswomen, uta is also looking for DJ's and bands to play. so if you want in contact her through the Creative Grove website. Plus...we'll cover "What Jelynne would do differently if she started all over again. "If you want to start your own small restaurant or retail store, reserve today.$35 per student, includes a FREE copy of my book, "Restaurant From Scratch". You could also head up to JSQ for an afternoon of Belly Dance performances at the Journal Square Cafe, things start shaking at 4 pm. It's a Belly Dancing Extravaganza with over 40 Belly Dancers performing.

Let me percervier into Monday and Tuesday Nights so I can rest peacefully and prepare for my big days and next weekend. This Monday DJ Birbal is a Lamp Post, he's switching of with LuLu on Mondays. Need to know who is there, just show up or call 201-222-1331.

Everybody's Working for the Weekend

Loverboy was right about something even if their fashion sense may have been a little off. It all adds up to this the weekend ? Really? well maybe not really. Anywhom, last night I caught the Jersey City debut of Scottie L aka DJJC at the Lamppost. He was in filling it in for my little bro Cootah, this Saturday they both ship them selves off to the Gaslight in Hoboken (Adams and 4th ) for a transplant able JC party. Saturday is loaded sandwich served on Seven Grained Heads; with Steff " Street Justice" Kautzmann (Lamp Post Wednesdays) womanninng the Vinyl Solution at the White Star, Andrea WK is teaming up with Leonard Smalls at Luckys and Billy Filo (Twilight Procession/Higgins) is spinning at the Lamppost this Saturday Night. Plus DJ Soul "George Fernandez" and Meagan Wagner are spinning 660 Grand's Depression Era Party ( This dynamic DJ Duo also spins Art House's Summer Blow-out on Friday the 27th)

Tonight is Friday so do let me readdress myself. With Eric Brown on a Greyhound Bus passing through Dawson Pass, the monopoly of the mustached (Caligula) is at the Lamppost to skoul you. If you are still stuck in the City make your way home via Bar 13 for Dj William McCamie Deep Soul Sounds he actually does this every Friday and things are enhanced with an extended Happy Hour and a Rooftop Bar (As you may have heard DJ Bill also spins Industry Night at Lucky's ). If you need a plan B at midnight tonight (F), head to 143 for the Seven b's party. Ladies are free, but guys will get a stung at the door.

Shifting from playing music to making music, The Boro Six Festival is going on in Montclair/Bloomfield this weekend. Featuring many bands that make Jersey City their second or first home, you can catch Ben Franklin (F) , The McMickle Brothers (S), Bern and the Brights (S) , and the One and Nines playing the Festival Finale on Sunday Night. You can also catch the Freak Flames of Flaming Fire with Haunted Pussy II and Musical Comedian and Babyhole Featured Performer Jessica Delfino tonight (F) in at Union Pool in Brooklyn. Also touring out of town tonight are Any Day Parade and the Roadside Graves who are playing at the Court Tavern in New Brunswick. Try your luck with the door staff here, they are infamous for being smugger than a flea circus at a carpet outlet !!

Saturday's Big Daytime draw is also out of town, as the Mermaid Parade washes up on the shores of Coney Island. Sea Nymphs and Warlocks play in Neptune's world of wonder. The Parade starts at 2pm with Harvey Keitel as King Neptune, (Better watch out Jersey Girls for the Bad Lieutenant)

Sunday does seem like a wash-out for Volleyball, but don't despair, your games on indoors at Passout Records with Mister Badger and then head out to Kitty Nights : NYC Rising Stars of Burlesque. Magdela Fox who entertained us for Robert Piersanti's opening reception at 58, is on board for this show and will also be posing for 58's hosting of Mr. Afternoon's Funtastic Figure Drawing Bonanza this Thursday. Bring your trade tools (charcoal, magic markers) for an unique skteching experience you will need to rsvp heypizza@gmail.com beforehand. Plus Hudson County Art Supply will have some supplies on hand as well as a door prize. In addition to this, Paul Vincent Studios is hosting their life drawing class on Tuesdays, space is limited for this week so contact paulvincentstudios@gmail.com if you want in.

Even with a wash-out for Volleyball, you can start getting your RED, WHITE and BLUE outfits ready for our closing reception for Dylan Egon's United Saints of Oil on July 3rd. The reception runs from 7 to 10 pm and then an things transform into an American Idol after party. Dress as your favorite American Idol or Icon, we don't need a roomful of Paula Abduls and Simon Whoever. Then on July 4th, it's our annual July 4th Volleyball Picnic at Morris Canal. t make things extra special I spoke with Macy's about doing a Fireworks show. Thank me later.

Bedford Ave was closed down and peeps zooming about where we ran into Fish with Braids Gallery and Boutique owner Uta with her wares Besides her space, Uta's drive brought the Creative Grove market to the Grove PATH on Fridays. JC Fridays really kicked off a great weekend. Thanks to everyone who made it out and made it. Here's a link to Joe Russo's pictures from our opening for Dylan Egon's United Saints of Oil at 58 and Dylan's link some of his prints. This show and most of the art exhibits that opened on JC Fridays are still up, so you still have a chance to check them out. In addition, get your outfits ready for an American Idol Costume Party on July 3rd, as well as July 4th for our annual Volleyball BBQ at Morris Canal.

Our Groove on Grove, for JC Fridays was also a great success, thank to The Black Hollies, The One and Nines, The Milwaukees, and Jupiter One who rocked it under the Big Top. Today (W) The Demands and The Subway Surfers will bring the musical thunder. Expect some black leather and dark humor from Subway Surfer's front man Eric Fusco. The Demands, Jahna Rain, who also plays with Mister Badger will keep you warm between her verses.

After the show, head over to Van Vorst Park for the season opener of Van Vorst Park Assocation's Film's in Van Vorst Park . Tonight's movie is Iron Man. A full list of the shows is here http://filmsinvanvorst.wordpress.com/ . Movies are every other Wednesday, they start at about 8:30 pm, rain dates are the following Wednesday. Bring a chair or blanket, and some popcorn. This Friday, Art House Productions, is presenting a "Bad Movie" Night by screening Wicker Man, I haven't seen it, but based on their billing I assume that heckling and talking may be allowed during the show. Just don't screen "FIRE"

Late Tonight (W), it should be DJ Sup Babes (Brian Grundle) at Lucky's and Steff is hosting a Soft Rock Party with LULU. Beforehand, they'll have the Yankees Red Sox and the Phillies Mets Games playing for a soft jock rock.

Thanks for the humble showing at the White Star last Saturday Night for the debut of Sit and Spin Saturdays. Matt and I tinkered with needles and the mixer for the first 30 minutes, but after that it was all all WAX affair. This week, Uncle Joe's Veteran, the CEO of Something to do Thursdays, Neil McCoy spins. Next Saturday Street Justice does her thang. I am on for this Thursday at the Lamppost as Leonard Smalls plays cross-street at Lucky's, just dance your way up there or down here to see us.

For some real great dance performances, check out the Nimbus Dance Works 5th Season Home Opening Performance at Grace Van Vorst Church. Thursday's performance features live music by NYC-based Chorus, The New Amsterdam Singers. The Gala opening is also a fundraiser for the Church's Community programs, such as their Breakfast Plus program and their Senior services. There's a champagne reception after the performance on Thursday. Performances also run Friday and Saturday with student/Senior rates as well. Here's the link for tickets.

The End Results

The Heally Team may still be at Casino in the park after last night's almost sweeping victory. Hopefully someone will be out today taking down all of the signs. Thank to all of the candidates for making my mailbox feel loved again. It was a tough love showing for upstart the One Jersey City , but considering how other more entrenched candidates polled, their movement will continue to grow and be heard. Downtown's Steve Fulop cleared the finish line two lengths ahead of the pack. You can read up on the results at the JC Independent or nj.com. Hope you voted, like the other 10% of us ?

As for the rest of the Jersey City's Party Party, we all fared well and will be celebrating our non elected positions at Groove on Grove today with the Little Jazz Giant - Bryan Beninghove Organ Trio today (W). That's from 6 to 8. Hoboken Council Man for the Arts , Pat Longo is spinning tonight (W) at the Lamppost. The King of Chess (DJ Caligula) holds court at the Grassroots Community Space firts pawn moves at 7 pm ?

The Choice is Yours - Poll with it

Attention Fellow Citizens :

Jersey City is auctioning off the Mayor's Office and the entire City Council tomorrow (T) . Yep I know it sounds crazy, but they have this strange system known as an election where you and your Friends can go to place bets on who you want to be our next Mayor, and our representative Council Peeps. It's like going to Boston Market, you get to choose a Main Course and get a couple of sides to go with it. The Polls open from 6am to 8 pm. Please go out and vote. If you are still unsure if you want the Fried Chicken with Macaroni and Cheese and Spinach or the Meatloaf with Mashed Potatoes and a butter roll. Here some advice from some taste makers :

The Jersey City Independent has done a great job following the candidates. Their election coverage has debate videos, candidate information. and can even tell you where to go. The Hudson Reporter and the Jersey Journal also have their takes on the election. But a more personal approach can be filtered from JC Resident and Political Musician Tris McCall . He's actually done a sign count. Yummy. You can also check out Melissa Surach's (Babyhole Comedy Night) choices on her blog. She'll be hosting an Election Night Special tomorrow at the Lamp post. It may be the first night she get returns. (get it returns!) As for me, you can check out my blog or my front stoop to 9 C who is right for me with Ward E.

On the subject of Elections, The Reverend Billy Talen, who is running for Mayor of NYC is having a fundraiser (read Hellraiser) this Friday at 143 Columbus, more info to follow.

Friday Follow-up

Here's the weekend we've been waiting all winter for : Weather wise, the only way you can get wet, is to walk through a car wash or go to the beach. The parks are calling, (and calling for your help on Saturday at Van Vorst Park on Saturday from 10 to 4 ) back your paddle balls and your lotion.

First a quick reminder on tonight in Hoboken. It's an strong JC line up at the Monroe Center (720 Monroe Street) WJ and the Sweet Sacrifice, Plowing Mud Forever, Nathan Carpenter, The Old man and his Po'kra, Darren Deceide, plus. Now, Shades is going through some ABC bullshit, so it's a sort of BYOB, Tailgating Style drinking event. Bring a flask, eat some brownies, inhale ground nutmeg. Basically this an "21+show " with an all ages format :). Afterwards big kids can return to the hood for Caligulation at the LP.

I'll give you a full report after the show. But if you really want to read about local music, Check out Zak Clark (Lucky 7's/Trainspotting) Rocker Tycoon Blog . Zak breaks down shows in a methodical strategy, he's basically a conce rt concierge and now I wonder why we haven't been out to a show together yet ? Call me 201-FBI-AUTO

If you plan to pull out of Jersey City tomorrow night (S) , head out to Newark for an Red Hair Strangeness Tribute to Willie Nelson at Kilkenneys Ale House. Any Day Parade, Bern and the Brights, the McMickle Brothers all pay homage to the Mr. Nelson, who celebrated his birthday on the High Holiday of April 20th (4/20). Before hand it's a last look at the Go-Go going works of Robert Piersanti at 58. Closing reception is from 7 to 10 pm. I am out at 10 sharp to catch Holmes and the Subway Surfers at the Lamppost. Or you can have a Brixton Riot of a time at the IMAC, JC's Cambell Apartment enjoins.

If you'd rather Jazz around on Saturday, the Bryan Benninghove Trio plays Casa Dante while Brendan Brendan Kibbee plays at Made with Love Organic Bakery on Jersey Ave from 7:30 to 9:30.

If you are more of the mafia type. Check out Jersey City Craft Mafia 's Art Attack at Club H on Sunday from 1 to 6 pm, If the exercise machines start to make you cringe, get some POISON (group art show) at Curious Matter (272 5th) . Here's there blog http://www.curiousmatter.blogspot.com/

We (I and many other ?) will be playing volleyball on Sunday, set up is going to be at 1 pm. come early and call or text me about what you can bring for the grill 973-219-9696.

Just to jump into Monday. The Grassroots Community Space at 54 Coles is offering Middle Eastern Dance Lessons on Monday Nights. you can check them out here http://www.grassrootscommunityspace.com/
And don't forget DJ Birball and Avalon hold down the Lamppost on Monday Nights.

Volunteers listen up? The world is calling. We may not have your direct line, but as we are all aware of times are a little tougher and we need to lean on eachother once and a while for support. I know you are looking for someway to give back to your community so here it is.

Tomorrow (R) from noon to 8pm, Loews Theaterat Journal Square is hosting a Volunteer Expo. Of course, and there will be many community organizations of all flavors looking for your assistance. Plus " There will be free give-aways, as well as "speed volunteering” -- hands-on activities that guests will accomplish right there, on-site, including toiletry kits to be assembled and youth arts and craft projects. " The theater itself is being restored by the Friends of the Loews , who originally saved this Majestic Palace from the wrecking ball over 20 years ago. This weekend you can check out a Lion in the Winter (F) and Journey to the Center of Earth (S) on their big screen. Here's the story link from the Hudson Reporter (it's on your doorstep too)

Tonight (W) you can help out Art House Productions prepare for their upcoming performance of Heavy Craft, Soft Landing, with some soft crafting and maybe some heavy lifting , really there's some set constructing and painting tonight (W) from 7 to 10 pm and on Saturday (S) from Noon to 8 pm. Also, Christine Goodman is looking for pair of HEADPHONES (BIG kind with the padding over the ears) , a DICTIONARY (with DICTIONARY very clearly in big, bold type across the front) FAKE PLANTS ( green and bushy & fake potted trees) and WHITE LAB COAT(S), plus END TABLE ( a small, we will need to paint it WHITE and it must have a DRAWER). Contact info@arthouseproduction.org if you gots the goods.

If you want to spend your Saturday Volunteering outdoors, Help the Friends of Van Vorst Park for their annual planting. You can also probably get some Financial Advise from the 20 Goldman Sachs Volunteers who are always there to help out. While I am on volunteering, let me remind you about the Breakfast Plus Program at Grace Van Vorst Church on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Here's the link to volunteer.

On the subject of civil responsibility, you can check Tris McCall croon about the Jersey City Political Landscape at tonight's (W) fundraiser for the One Jersey City party at Jordan'sLounge tonight from 7 to 9 pm. You can also catch the Mayoral Candidiates Debate tomorrow night (R) at the Bright Street School. The debate is sponsored by the Coalition of Downtown Neighborhood Associations and Civic JC. You can check out http://www.jcvote.org/ for information about the Mayoral and City Council Candidates. In addition, on the right (side) , you 'll see a link to the Jersey City In dependent's Election Coverage. For vintage coverage, check out Another Man's Treasure at Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show this weekend (April 24 - 26)

All of this volunteering and you will have to give some time back to yourself. Tonight (W) DJ Caligula's Brainwork will be at the Grassroots Community Space for their debut of CHESS NIGHT. Overall, it's all fun and games with Kerri hosting a Game Night at Simple Bar and Cafe, and Trivia Night at Barrow Bar. Tonight, there's also a Homind Party at The Stockinette Cafe. Poets, Songsters and Wordsmiths are all welcome come after 7:30 pm BYOB OK.Later on Steff does Street Justice to Wednesday Night with DJ Dorien (Chuck Daly's roommate) at the Lamppost and Lucha DJ at Lucky's.

I am back on my DJ gig at the Lamppost this Thursday. Things will still hopefully erupt into a dance party of course, but it's a no-Karaoke night. Ladies, make sure you check out hot stuff Leonard Smalls at Lucky Seven's before/after you see me (wink x3).

It is really going to be park weather this weekend, and things will start to heat on on Friday with the return of the Garden State Rollergirls to their track at Branch Brook Park. They face off against the Hudson Valley Horrors at 8 pm. Tickets here. There's parking a plenty here and as well, at the Monroe Center in Hoboken where JC's WJ and The Sweet Sacrifice, Plowing Mud Forever, Nathan Carpenter, the Old Man & His Po' Buckra and Darren Deicide. It's only $10 a BYOB affair (but I hear it may be best to pack a flask)

On Fridays it's Fairmont, Rick Barry, Nightmares for a Week, & TBA at the IMAC, on Saturday Night, It's The Cambell Apartment, Brixton Riot, and the K's at the IMAC. The Sweet Sounds of Holmes (old friends from College) and Eric Fusco's Subway Surfers are at the Lamppost on Saturday Night.

On Saturday Night, we are hosting a closing reception for Robert Persanti's Painted Tribute to Go-Go Burlesque and Pop Culture. Sorry there but Ms. Saturn, BB Heart, Ms. Tickle, Magdelena Fox, and Melody Sweets will not be reprising the show kids. But we will keep the stage open for you do your own show :) Next Friday we have B-Line B-Boy Drawings and Sculpture by Carlos Mare139 Rodriguez

Last Night, JC City Theater opened The God Committee. There performances take place at the Underground Theater at St. Micheal's. Here's the word from Clay Cockrell about the show : There's a $5 discount for organ donors :)

Let the games begin!
One heart, four transplant patients and a ticking clock. The God Committee is a medical drama full of high wire tension and crackling humor that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats for the entire evening. Issues of race, gender, and of course money are debated and argued while a newly harvested heart is racing toward the hospital.
Alliances are formed, broken and reformed as the committee argues, accuses, debates and ultimately votes. And just when the matter seems to be decided, the playwright upends the proceedings with theatrical dynamite.
In honoring their tradition of producing enticing material, J CITY Theater has once again chosen a script that confronts hard questions and does not settle for easy answers. You are invited to come out to the Underground Theater in Jersey City for an evening of electrifying theater.
Audiences are encouraged to book tickets now due to limited seating and a limited run.

The God Committee
March 25 through April 4
Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays at 8:00 pm

Ah Green. One of my favorite flavors. Happy St. Patricks to all of you in the extended Irish Family ! May your pot at end of Rainbow not be a toilet bowl you puke in.

We have two events going on at 58 this week. Tonight, Thomas J Carlson, who's current exhibit, Ides of March, is sharing some new sketches as well as his culinary skills with a Tempeh Taco Tuesday Dinner Party. Things start at four and we are done at eight. Come sober, save your shenanigans for the Lucky Sevens St. Patricks Day Party or The White Star - Green Star Party God (referring to Catholic for this Racial Tinge) who isn't having a St. Patrick Day's Party ?
