"Live From Jersey City, It's jcFRIDAY NIGHT LIVE !"

It took me most of my childhood to stay up late enough to finally watch Saturday Night Live's Mr. Bill. Incidentally, I also missed Mick Jagger and Keith Richards making out in 1978. Luckily that didn't stop my desire to throw live shows and thankfully things are just getting underway for the 2014 seasons. With  a city-wide day of Arts, this JC Fridays offers a host of different mediums and medias of enjoyment. I'm teaming up with the O.G.'s of JCF's Art House Productions and hosting four great musical acts at AHP"s Penthouse Crib [1 McWilliams Pl] for jcFRIDAY NIGHT LIVE .

Sean Kiely [fmr Square Wave Punch] starts things off at 7:30 pm. Playing in his trio, David Heilman, a first class JC drummer and Norwegian Idol Judge joins Sean and then stays on to play with Jeff Taylor. Former JC Native's Food Will Win the War, puts a false ending to the night before an interactive performance piece by Ceallaigh Pender and Kit Vogelsang end us "Lost in the Land of Sigmund Freud's Looking Glass".  JC Studios who is celebrating their 2nd year downtown, has a full showcase of music and art starting at 6 pm. and you can catch the an after party show across town at at with Papermaker Douglas Dynamo at MOJO Lounge.

This is only a small slathering of the events of JCFridays' and sadly me attempting to tell you everything going would only repeat what is here at www.JCFRIDAYS.com and my schedule doesn't not allow such comfort. Just a big not too, Hamilton Health and Fitness is giving away tow full year memberships, to the person who consumes and relays the most JC Friday Trivia Knowledge. Apparently writing a blog about JC Fridays doesn't count

A premature start of the weekend begins with The Art House; downtown's longest running spoken word, musical, comedic, dramatic performances. Although commanding a delightful dictation, BROKEN ENGLISH, who most likely performed better on his SAT's than I did hosts this installment I'll be spinning out the jams for Ladies of their Night at Lucky's.

On Saturday, I'll be Hosting a DJing PI-e Day a LCCS Fundraiser at Liberty Science Center, that celebrates all this PI and Pie. Eat happy Einstein's! All you need to know about this never ending number and those crustaceans is here. I'm off on Saturday Night DJ's Stay Golden Pony Boy and J-Tower have This Saturday. as I will be prepping for a trip to Austin for South by Southwest, looking forward seeing a bunch of JC based bands , such as The Everymen, Stuyvesant, Overlake, The Black Hollies, and our newest neighbors, The Front Bottoms. If you know any couches in the Austin area hood me up, I make a great omelette.

I'm pretty much taking off next week from updating Jersey City on Jersey City. WFMU's Meghan McKee, will be in for a Girl on Girls Night next Thursday and Motor Funker spins next ST. Patty's Day Saturday Night, Keeping all things Irish DJ William McCamie spins on Sunday Night.

Dance Epidemic Strikes Shuts Down Jersey City or Saturday Night Malaria Treatment Center at The Lamp Post 02-08-14

[Jersey City, NJ] Medical personnel and other second responders will be at the Lamp Post tonight [02-08] to deal with the current outbreak of Fancy Foot disease that has stricken many local residents. "Although we don't have a cure for those affected, we feel that we can best manage the situation through containment"  Dr. Anthony Vito Susco said. His team of specialists [Ames Deluxe ad Andrea WK], believe that an aggressive dose a new cocktail of non-prescription drugs and shots will help those live comfortable with their conditions. "We can only hope for the best sometimes" He added.

Around other parts of town,  similar centers have been established to deal with the outbreak.  At Lucky 7's Dr. Marco Vidal, is working with his Owen and Dave Feldman to help those under the influence. As part of a two phased treatment, Mike Mistake will offer his controversial Industrial treatment on Sunday Night, [NOTE: the JC Medical Association is yet to sanction, his methods, which are at best questionable]. Also on  on Saturday Night, you can also visit Dr. Pastiche at Port-o Lounge for a technical approach to this epidemic. Those who want to pretend that this is not happening should immediately report to Tachair Book Store for their 1st Annual Playfest.

Lovers and Others don't forget about next weekends Bleu Valentine's event at Lucky 7's. Thursday will be a play to Play Fundraiser for the American Heart Association Go Red For Women drive. And Saturday Night Little Vera and the Lonely Hearts will play some Under Covers for Lovers, with specail sexual guest the Jeremy Wallace menage a TRIOs  and Hank E. Why doesn't anyone like C|arePoint ? or I'm hurt call me a taxi !

What is it about this C|arePoint? She's like your best friend's new girl/boy friend, and no one has anything nice to say about her? If you aren't sure who/what I am referring to here, let's take a minute and return to 2013. Towards the end of last year, Jersey City requested proposal for a new 3 year contract for ambulance services. The mayor's office appointed a five member committee who ultimately compared the only two proposals submitted. One came from CarePoint/McCabe a for-profit medical services company that owns Bayonne Hospital, Hoboken Medical Center, and recently purchased Christ Hospital;  the second bid came from the Jersey City Medical Center, a non-profit organization that has run the ambulance program for the last 130 years, and operates the new Jersey City Medical Center. After a close vote, the 5 member board recommended to award the contract to CarePoint and on the last council meeting of the year, the City Council planned to vote on this measure. Done deal? Thankfully not, and hopefully not.

Okay back to Ms. C|arePoint, your best friend's new boy/girlfriend. Here's why I'm not in favor of you dating her/him.

1.  CarePoint – which has canceled agreements with nearly all insurance carriers – gets a huge financial benefit from ER admissions. By state law, insurance companies must pay full price for services administered to patients coming in through the ER. from  Hudson Reporter - City punts on ambulance contract Decision on hiring company is delayed until after the New Year

2. CarePoint's - Bayonne Medical Center Has the Highest Billing Rates in The Nation. Bayonne Medical typically charged $99,689 for treating each case of chronic lung disease, 5.5 times as much as other hospitals and 17.5 times as much as Medicare paid in reimbursement. The hospital also charged on average of $120,040 to treat transient ischemia, a type of small stroke that has no lasting effect. That was 5.6 times the national average and 23.6 times what Medicare paid. from May 16, 2013 New York Times  Just a note - either of these bill's would give me a heart attack [actual dollar cost not cited here]

3. I haven't found one person who has anything nice to say about CarePoint's billing or employment experiences. I know a mother who is fighting a $19,000 bill for her three year old son's a three hour ER visit to Christ Hospital, a woman who works at a CarePoint hospital who described her bosses a "another faceless money making system" . Yes CarePoint donated 100 or so meals to St. Lucy's Shelter around Thanskgiving, but I bet they haven't been back since, nor did they even take time to offer any medical services to anyone in the homeless shelter while they were there, you think they would give away something they had unlimited access to ? Nope !

4. The JCMC uses EMT's who have trauma training and have a six minute response time, while a CarePoint ambulance focuses on transport. No thanks, I'm calling A-1 Taxi instead of 911.

5. Finally, the city has not reached out to the community for their input on this contact selection process. Sorry, with the exception of the late December city council meeting, in which member from the community could have spoken on behalf of the measure before it's vote. So well timed for the holidays, like I'm not busy enough !

On Wednesday at 7 pm. January 8th, a Public QandA Forum is taking place at the Mary Bethume Center at 140 MLK Blvd. community leaders will come together to host a public forum regarding the controversial EMS contract at the Mary Bethune Center. Jersey City Medical Center CEO Joe Scott will be present to answer questions. Carepoint/McCabe declined the invitation to attend. The purpose of this forums is to allow the general public to hear from both health care providers bidding on an EMS contract with the city of Jersey City. The open forum was originally co-sponsored by Civic JC and Beacon Block Neighborhood Association.

Finally, on Wednesday January 15th, The City Council will most likely vote on the awarding the contract to CarePoint, please join other concerned citizens from SAVEOUREMS  in opposing this measure.

Midnight at Moonlight or Begin the Beginning

Here we go 2013 coming to a close. All right dust of your tux for a seven to 8 hour night, that could either end up with you Taking the Polar Bear Plunge at Coney Island or Brunch. After waking to the sound of 2013 ringing in at Sushi Tango last year, I am happy again to spending the days leading up to and away from 2014 cleaning up for a party and after a party. The street address is the same as in the past, but this years festivities at 58 Coles Street will be the debut event for the Moonlight Mile Recording Studio. Transplanted from Hoboken to make room for more luxury condos, Mike Mobius is showcasing The Wreaths and Thomas Francis Takes His Chances. After the ball drop and the bands are done, we will follow up with a Dance Party til late with George Soul Fern | Motor Funker | Dancing Tony and Brian Jones. doors are at 10 pm $10 before bands 1:30 am / $5 afterwards BYOB OK.

2012 NYE's Band Wyldlife and Shayfer James are both in NYC for NYE this year. Shayfer James plays a FREE show at Rockwood Music Hall at 9 pm, and Wyldlife play at "Ball Drop" is in Brooklyn for a GlamDamnit NYE at Victory Hall in Brooklyn. Here in Lucky 7's, LITM, and Abbey's, and the Corkscrew all have a COVER FREE NYE, as do many other bars. Lucky 7's Regular Punk Rock DJ's Brain DJ SUP Babes Grundle and Chuck Daly [JC Tattoo Co] spin vinyl til 4am. DJ Mike is at LITM, and it's a Free Jukebox at Abbeys.

If you are looking for something more refined Satis Bistro, GP's, and Madame Claude both offer a Fixed Menu with champagne and the fixings. Make your reservations ! Motor Funker rings in teh New Yaer at Satis before his second set at Moonlight Mile. More than a House Band, Madamme Claude's Manouch Bag will take you into 2014.

Whatever, you choose, please have a safe and happy new year's eve. Speaking of, please take a minute and read up on the proposed change in Ambulance Contract from Jersey City Medical Center to CarePoint/McCabe. A couple of months ago, when I saw JCMC EMTs with a petition at the Bagel shop, I didn't thin much of it. But the more I hear, the more against I am having the for-profit CarePoint/McCabe take over. please help save our EMS.

Be on the look out for a newly designed Rock-it Docket for 2014, along with all the good things that an official information source should have like advertising, I can do this for free anymore JC.

If you made it this far, which according to research you stop reading about 3 paragraphs ago; Get some laughs in today at Comedy Clips at Balance Salon 5pm on Sunday.

Through Thanksgiving week, there are plenty of events to remind us all that life's struggle is not a one person journey and that the human spirit is stronger bond that any indifference. You can donate goods to The Urban Mission Church . In addition, The Iron Monkey hosts dinner for over 500 needy neighbors on Thanksgiving. Here's a link to some events from last year, that are most likely hosting events this year.

Au Reviore Jersey City & The Ghost of Uncle Joe's 10/26

Bon Jour from Canada my friends, with an almost economic doom facing America, I've hitched a ride with The Front Bottoms for my first stint as a merch girl/ sound guy. During my conditional absence, I have left Running Fun to Neil McAneny, Ladies Night [this Thursday] to Steff Kautzmann aka DJ Street Justice. and what's left of the Dancing Tony Empire, more specifically this Saturday Night's Danceteria at Lucky 7's  to DJ's Glitterous & Glamourous. In the meantime, I'll be enjoying free healthcare, along with Hockey and Poutine here in Canada.

If things do work out for the good old USA, we'll be coming back through Rochester, NY on Saturday Night, then continuing back to Jersey City on Sunday. Just in time for this year's Ghost of Uncle Joe's Halloween Fundraiser at the Historic JC and Harsimus Cemetery on Saturday October 26th. Here's the killer line-up for this year :

2:00 Gates | 2:22 Elvis Costello & the Attractions by Otis Ball and SFTKB | 3:30 Rancid by They Live | 4:20 Cream by Aminal | 5:10 Fugazi | 6:00 B-52's by Papermaker  | 6:50 Joy Division 7:40 The Doors| 8:20 Roxy Music by WFMU Hoof and Mouth Slimfonia | 9:10 The Who by the Milwaukees | 10:00 Death March to the Lamp Post

With Special Guest DJ Gorgio - Motor Funker in between sets

Just a scheduling note: in the event of bad weather on Saturday, we'll have the event on Sunday, with Roxy Music and another band playing at the Lamp Post on Saturday Night. If the weather isn't good for Sunday, we will have the vent indoors at Art House Productions at 1 McWilliams Place.
