The Skyline should have a limit

One of the benefits of the fire that destroyed a portion of the mural on Columbus Ave, is that since the building had to be demolished, you can now more sky, in fact you can see straight through to Newark Avenue now. It's not that I hate tall buildings, but I hate large signs advertising luxury condos and rentals, if the buildings where unique and not so overpriced, maybe we would see curtains in the windows instead.

Tonight, the planning board hears round two of the Toll Brothers plan to capture more skyline and obtain a variance on the Power House Arts District zoning. This plan is opposed by the Power House Arts District Neighborhood Association. The meeting is at 5:30 pm at the Middle School on Bright Street. you can read more information at http://www.padnajc.org/. The Planning board is going to make a final decision on this proposal tonight, so if you can make this meeting it would be very helpful.

17 Year Cicada - New Works by Kayt Hester

SAT 08/24 @ 9pm Port-o- Lounge he 17 Year Cicada – New Art Work by Kayt Hester – opens August 24th at Port- O Lounge, one of the handful of downtown Jersey City restaurants/art galleries that, by presenting to new audiences, up & coming and established local artists, are transforming the New York Metropolitan area Art World. As the title of the exhibition suggests, this edition of the yearly Hester Summer Showcase coalesces around the theme of Magicada Cicadas – the species of cicadas that only appear every 17 years. Her more recent work also expands her use of texture and color. Augmenting her black masking tape are new, extraordinary details made of brightly colored, metallic tape. She also has incorporated embroidery to canvases, essentially embedding 21st century needlepoint within her tape illustrations.

Nov 7 to 18h @ Barrow Mansion | August, 1949. A fascinatingly realistic picture of routine cases brought into a bustling metropolitan police station in the course of an evening. Out of the welter of human misery, vice and foolishness there emerges the moving case of a decent young man who has stolen money from his employer; a hardened criminal dragging his young friend down with him; a lawless NJ "gardener" with a corrupt lawyer; and others. In the throes of the tumult is Detective McLeod -- a man whose black & white vision of justice will be challenged by the woman he loves most: his wife. A cast of 22 men and women will bring this drama of truth and consequences to life on the stage.
