Thank you to everyone who came out to our opening last Thursday of Kayt Hester Lent's A Method of Madness Art Opening. JC's Taylor Mills, overcame some of her nervousness and played three songs . The show runs until August 5th, with the gallery open on Fridays from 12 to 7 and Saturdays from 12 to 5 pm. We will have all of the work uploaded for view any day.
On Friday the 13th ., I finally made it to my first Roller Derby Match @ Branch Brook Park. The Iron Maidens (The All Star of the Garden State Roller Girls) fought with the The Coal City Rollers from Wilke-Barre Pennsylvania. There was fast skating, hard hitting, and some spilling. The Jersey Girls took a loss but the event was awesome. Check their website http://www.gardenstaterollergirls.com/ for their schedule.
Lex Leonard is putting together an event on the steps of City Hall on July 28th contact him here if you want to Perform. City Hall may be the teh best place to make some noise these days because next week a new noise ordinace will go into effect. Crafted by Steve Fulop, the new restriction was in response to The Sand Bar's Weekend Volume eminating from their outdoor bars. You can read the story here. You should read this article, becuase even if it is directed to one establishment, it will affect us all. More later.

Greetings all,
As some of you may know, in addition to serving as Artistic Director of Art House Productions, I am also a spoken word artist. I rarely read my own poetry at Art House, however, because our open mike sign-up sheets fill up fast and time always seems to run short…
That’s why this Friday the 13th is a lucky night for me! I have been invited to read, alongside with 3 fabulous NYC poets and 1 amazing soundsmith, in "A Summer Spoken For" at the Brennan Gallery in Hudson County’s Brennan Courthouse (near Journal Square) in Jersey City.
I’m honored to be sharing the stage with such a talented lineup of artists and I’m doubly honored to be collaborating with my very special guests, who will accompany me on stage: Cat Lombardi (percussion), Glen Coleman
(guitar) and Jack Halpin (guitar).
Plus, it’s FREE, close to the PATH, they’ve got free parking out front and…
…this is also the opening reception for our art exhibit! HUGE prints of our poems, typeset and printed by local artist Ed Fausty, will hang on the Brennan Courthouse walls from July 10- August 1, 2007. "The exhibition focuses not on illustrating visually what the poems convey but on capturing the exact visual essence of the text" (Julian Stockdale).
I hope you can join me this Friday the 13th. It’s going to be a great night, and it would mean so much to have you there!
Keep on creating,
Christine

As most of you should be aware, Rock Soup's Festa Fenice Event of Art and Music has been delayed until September. Rock Soup postponed the event in order to get necessary permits and to access funding an resources that the City offers to non-profit organizations. Our delay of Shangri-la was also for the same reasons. Tomorrow morning, I have a date in at the Jersey City Municipal Court House, to deal with a summons that we received. Furthermore, on Wednesday a new Prospective Noise Ordinance drafted by Steven Fulop will be introduced at the City Council Meeting. Things seems to be changing on many levels here but we will continue to keeping the arts a priority of our mission.
http://www.gardenstaterollergirls.com/Think that girls cant play tough? Think again. With two games already tucked under their belt, the Garden State Rollergirls are ready to introduce their fastest and finest team, the Ironbound Maidens, at their first inter-league bout this season. Armed with a power-packed roster of all-star talent, the Ironbound Maidens will take on the Coal City Rollers, hailing from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on Friday, July 13th. The landmark event is appropriately dubbed Terror On Wheels to coincide with the notorious day & date combination. The Garden State Rollergirls have been working around the clock to ensure that the July 13th event, Terror On Wheels, will be even more exciting and interactive than fans have previously enjoyed. The festivities will include a costume contest, zombie face painting for all, fabulous prizes, live music and of course great skating!Attendees of Terror On Wheels are encouraged to help celebrate by dressing up as their favorite horror film characters or other spooky and spirited alter-egos. Audience participation will determine the winner, and the gory guy or gal will receive a prize package courtesy of Sourpuss Clothing, Manic Panic and the Garden State Rollergirls. The first 50 fans to arrive at the door will receive a gift from Sourpuss Clothing. There will also be a character make-up artist on hand to transform guests into ghoulish zombies! Live music from the instrumental surf-rock band The Coffin Daggers will be enjoyed by all. Terror On Wheels will take place on Friday, July 13, 2007 at Branch Brook Park Roller Skating Center in Newark, NJ. Doors are at 8:00pm, the bout starts at 9:00pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door for this family-friendly Friday night event. Friends,We have a number of shows coming up this July, and we're really busy recording, and I'm not sure who's interested in which shows, so I figured I'd just let it all loose here in one missive and let it go at that. The single for Club Sedition is done, and we just need to get it printed at this point. The Album is mostly done, we still have to record all the vocals (almost everything else was tracked live!), but C-Minus (aka Carson) and Daniel Schlett have been doing an amazing job down at Hypersnakes Studio in South Amboy. On a related note, I've never spent so much time on the turnpike in my life as I have since we moved to Jersey City. We would love to see you at any of these shows we have coming up this July. We've got nothing booked at this point for August, save a trip to the South (Georgia!), so this is probably the best time to see us this Summer. We're in rare form and won't be doing so many gigs again I think until the Fall. Thanks very much to everyone who's been coming out lately! I know how hard it is to take time out when you work all the damn time and you just need some down time, so thanks very much for spending the time with us. Also, that dance party at Toy Eaters was totally awesome! Hey you,
I'm starting a reading series at Balance Salon World Of Style for my humorous essays and poetry. I'll be inviting special guests to read sometimes, so tell your writer friends.
It's going to be Saturdays before dark. It will most likely start up by the end of this month.
Balance Salon World Of Style is a hair salon and vintage clothing store with go go stages and wine. It's the only hair salon I've known that has bands play. It's one block from the Grove Street PATH. Also, it's given me the best hair cuts of my life.
Thank you,
Melissa Surach
Vito! You mispelled my name. It's Melissa Surach, with two s's.
And my first reading at Balance will be on July 28th from 3-5 pm. It's called Sweet Face, Sour Puss.
Also, I will soon be starting an open mic on Tuesday nights called BabyHole. I don't know where or when, but it will happen as soon as next week, or no later than the first week of September. It will be for everything BUT poetry, mostly comedy and rock and roll.
Thanks!
Melissa
