Sink ! Oh Day My Oh

Another busy week in our one-horse town:

Alright, you already heard about my iPOD getting stolen. But did you know that we found a SONY Mini Disc Player (I think it belongs to a guys named will) email me at asusco@smithmullin.com As for my iPOD , I at least hope they don't forget to restore the factory settings and wipe out 4000 great songs. Sgt. Karma will find you. Here are some pictures from that memorable night .

DJ Street Justice filled in for me last night and we enjoyed a rain soaked evening at the Lamp Post. She's at St. Jerome's (153 Irvington) on Thursday and then off to St. John for a sunny vacation. Next Tuesday, will be Jesse's Debut, I'll be in Beirut, I mean at the Beirut show, but will head over afterwards. Jason from american watercolor movement plays next Wednesday.

Monday Night's Artist preview for Grace Church's Cathedral Art Show was packed. This Saturday is their Catherdral Arts Champagne Gala Fundraiser. Tickets are $40 ($50 at the door) with the money they raise going towards the community events, such as the Homeless Breakfast Program on the weekends. When you go, please check out American Watercolor Movement's Video Artist, Sebastian Masuelli exhibit IN THE BELLTOWER. AWM will be performing a 3 week stint in Newark based upon Sebastian's Julia. Grace Church follows up the Gala with live performances on Sunday from local artists and then an Artist Talk on Monday.

On Thursday Night, the Art House returns at their new location, the Roof of the old St. Francis Building. The weather will be fantastic, Christine Goodman told me so. Look for the building that is still standing and not surrounded bu fencing. Also on Thursday, Bryan Beninghove will/may be playing his last gig at the Iron Monkey, now would be a good time to go.

In anticipation of Cinco de Mayo, Bar Majestric is having an outdoor party on FRIDAY May 4th. Bring a bat, there will be plenty of Pinata's. Party starts when you leave early from work (4pm)

This month is going to be Big at the Lex Leonard Gallery, with each Saturday dedicated to experiment Jazz on Saturday,. This Friday Glen Coleman hosts a singer songwriter night with an open jam afterwards. Things start at 7:30 pm too much to report check his website for more.

In the 58 world, This Saturday we have : Sounds of Greg D, double-breasted, and Chris Harford and the Band of Changes. (links to the right) Showtime 8 pm. The deep fryer is still around so expect some sex-mex fare. Next Friday, May 11th, Dylan Egon's Faith and Fate Exhibit opens, with JC's The Black Hollies performing a special set at 10 pm sharp.

Earlier on Saturday, the Friends of Van Vorst Park has their annual planting. The Mayor and Councilman Steven Fulop will be there to officially open the Dog Run. The Dog Run has been opened for a while , if you want to read morte about the dog run go to http://www.jclist.com/ one note: not one dog has complained. Also at 11 am there is a silent auction at the old Medical Center, who needs a defibulator ?

The weather was great for Volleyball last Sunday. We play @ the park known as the "Pennisula" it's right here @ 155 Washington Street. Weather looks good for this Sunday. We set up at 1 pm

Attic Ensemble @ Barrow Mansion began it's run of "The Last Night of Ballyhoo". The show runs through this weekend. Check out the links for times and tickets.

It's a rare opportunity for an artist to show in such a special place as a belltower, and a rarer one still for anyone to experience it.I hope you can make it to the opening monday, April 30th or the Artist Talk Monday, May 7th. Also, some friends have work on the show as well, good time should be had by all.
if you'd like to get some context on Julia's plight --> http://www.fease.org/ (the mistake i make is to try and think, as well as the blog).

About the scene...
Over the last several years, Jersey City has distinguished itself as an important center for the arts not only locally but globally. Its numerous galleries, arts centers and the support received from local audiences are a testament to a thriving arts scene right across the Hudson River. As a result, more and more artists of every variety are increasingly making Jersey City their home. This is notably true for avant-garde jazz musicians. As the number of spaces within the greater metropolitan area that feature this music has shrunk dramatically in the last few years, musicians increasingly are turning to self-promoted events to keep this vital music alive. James Keepnews is an independent jazz musician and promoter who's organized a platform for cutting edge jazz for four Saturdays in May.
About the promoter...
James Keepnews is a musician, writer and multimedia artist. He has performed with dozens of bands and performing artists over the course of two decades, including Daniel Carter, George Lewis, Holland Hopson, Joe Giardullo, Linda Montano, Damian Catera and many others. Keepnews received his B.A. in English at Hamilton College in 1988 and attended the Interactive Electronic Arts program (iEAR) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, receiving his MFA from there in 1998. He is currently preparing several releases for his his record label, Metaharmonc (http://www2.blogger.com/www.metaharmonic.com). Spring greetings! You are invited to perform spoken word, poetry, voice or music, bring your own small amp and mike if needed. During 12 pm - 6:30 pm Friday June 1st, 2007, in the Caucus Room, City Hall, 280 Grove Street - Second floor, Jersey City, NJ. The Caucus Room is a large board room about 20 x 40 feet being used for art gallery space. My TREE show is the second in a series in praise of trees in all their manifestations. Another celebration of nature and life. Please respond as soon as possible with your preferred performance time 12 pm - 6:30 pm, Friday, June 1st.Happy spring!
