Bare Essentials

Thank you to everyone who helped get things underway and flowing for last weekend's Studio Tour. Thanks to The Coffin Daggers, WJ & The Sweet Sacrifice, Lismore and DJ Hot Rod for performing. And thanks you to everyone behind the scenes who got the show to go on. Oh and if you missed the Dance Party at the Lamp Post last Saturday. You missed it fool. Thanks Cootah !!

Tonight we have our group show the Artemathician with works by Eric Gray, Dylan Egon, Lina Rincon, Maurizio Zuluaga, Brian Gustafson, Max Michaels & Christopher Silk, and Patricia Zapata. Curated by: Diana cordova. In addition, this opening also features a lingerie show by Hala Vintage. Come by after 7 pm. Dr. Shakes has a great audio visuals for you to enjoy.

Also Tonight, Savu Sea plays the Sound Lounge @ Jordan's Lounge. They perform after the Percussion battle which features Lex Leonard going for the Gold. If you prefer to see your fighting on skates. The Garden State Rollergirls host their final bout this evening at Newark's Branch Brook Park. In addition, to their bout, the United Spinal Jets , a quad rugby team will also be on the battle front. If this is not enough for you Darren Decide and Guests play at the Iron Monkey tonight. And as well, god I feel like it's JC Fridays. The Super Karaoke Fun Time band is at The Corkscrew.

Tomorrow afternoon from Noon to 4 pm, is an Embankment Celebration at Resurrection School (part of the Church of the Holy Rosary Complex) on 6th and Brunswick. The event is both a planning affair and a celebration of the recent victory of the Embankment Preservation Group. for more info http://www.embankment.org/

I need to skip to this Sunday. The Shell Shag and Lebanon (Israel) and perhaps Hunchback show will be at Toyeater's Studio, instead of 58. It's an all ages, BYOB affair that starts nice and early at 5:30 pm. Toyeaters is at 143 Columbus. Come for fun.

Between 1 and 2 pm we will honor individuals who contributed to the STB Petition, including Governor Jon Corzine, U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Frank Lautenberg, NJ State Senator Bernard F. Kenny, Jr., NJ State Assemblyman Louis M. Manzo, Hudson County Executive Thomas A. DeGise, Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy, Council President Mariano Vega Jr. and Members of the Municipal Council, and the neighborhood associations and individual citizens who sent statements and letters of support to the STB.***************************************************Would you like to be an Embankment volunteer?I hope you've already heard the news - we won at the STB!!! While we've had incremental wins over the years, this is the most important and puts us on track to actually MAKING A PARK in downtown Jersey City. We've asked you to come out to Council meetings, badger your legislators etc, but this time we want to CELEBRATE!On Saturday, October 13th, we'll be having our annual membership meeting along with a big party with live music, children's activities (we'll actually have artists helping to make creative costumes), and a few speeches from our politicians (see a full description of the event below). To pull it off, though, we need your help before the event and the day of the event. If you can't help, we hope you can at least attend. 17 Year Cicada - New Works by Kayt Hester

SAT 08/24 @ 9pm Port-o- Lounge he 17 Year Cicada – New Art Work by Kayt Hester – opens August 24th at Port- O Lounge, one of the handful of downtown Jersey City restaurants/art galleries that, by presenting to new audiences, up & coming and established local artists, are transforming the New York Metropolitan area Art World. As the title of the exhibition suggests, this edition of the yearly Hester Summer Showcase coalesces around the theme of Magicada Cicadas – the species of cicadas that only appear every 17 years. Her more recent work also expands her use of texture and color. Augmenting her black masking tape are new, extraordinary details made of brightly colored, metallic tape. She also has incorporated embroidery to canvases, essentially embedding 21st century needlepoint within her tape illustrations.

58 Gallery Reunion Show

Opening F 6 to 9 pm Mary Benson Galleryey everybody, there once was this place called 58 gallery in dtjc showed some of the best art around by some of the best emerging artist around, it coupled the shows with sounds and visuals "that would create an atmosphere unlike any in nyc" holland cotter ny times...and it did a bunch of other things to strengthen the artist community between 2002-2012. it closed in 2012. some of the pioneers and trendsetters of that time are gathering for the start of this amazing series of shows. stay tuned for more info. www.fifty8.com

The Attic Ensemble Presents

Nov 7 to 18h @ Barrow Mansion | August, 1949. A fascinatingly realistic picture of routine cases brought into a bustling metropolitan police station in the course of an evening. Out of the welter of human misery, vice and foolishness there emerges the moving case of a decent young man who has stolen money from his employer; a hardened criminal dragging his young friend down with him; a lawless NJ "gardener" with a corrupt lawyer; and others. In the throes of the tumult is Detective McLeod -- a man whose black & white vision of justice will be challenged by the woman he loves most: his wife. A cast of 22 men and women will bring this drama of truth and consequences to life on the stage.
