3.2.1. Dodgeball ! 17 years since my last blog post

Really not that long, but it has been 17 years since the Cicadas last emerged from their sex deprived hibernation. This Saturday, we celebrate their return with new works by Kayt Hester at Port-O Lounge. Opening starts at 9 pm. I've got the DJ reins after 10 pm..

Earlier on that Saturday, the JC Olympics continues with sports 3 and 4 of the Sex-Tathalon with Dodgeball and Shuffleboard at noon. We'll be at the Skate Park at Enus Jones Field [Pavonia and Brunswick St.'s] at noon setting up. First games are at 1 pm. So far we've raised about $300 for the JC Recreation Foundation. Sadly, WE would have raised more money, but the Mayor beats us at the Belmar Chase 5K two weeks ago, plus a bunch of us we're drinking at that time and unable to participate.

On Sunday, a fundraiser that is guaranteed to get you soaked takes place at the Boys and Girls club on Sunday Aug 25th. Apparently, not since Hurricane Sandy will so much water be rained on our citizens. The event is a BYOB [balloon] affair benefiting the Boys and Girls Clubs of Jersey City. I'm DJing tonight Thursday for Ladies Night at Lucky 7's. DJ William McCamie is up at Sanai's on Summit Ave. On Saturday Night, Motor Funker Radio spins and Monday....Metal Madess with DJ Moranis is on the decks both at Lucky's .

Groove on Grove is finishing up our final two showcases starting with our Back to School Special Showcase on August 28th with JC Young and Emerging Artist taking the stage this Wednesday at 5pm. Then we'll close things off with our JC Fridays Finale with Bryan Benninghove's Hangmen, Kiwi, The One and Nines, and Rebeca Vallejo. JC Fridays will also mark the return of art at 58 Coles Street with Quadrivium by Maurizio Zuluga. A full listing of JC Fridays events is here.

On Saturday September 7th, we'll be hosting an all DJ fundraiser for the Historic JC and Harsimus Cemetery. This Private event requires you to RSVP and buy tickets in advance. You can do so by paypaling a $10 donation or an VIP $25 donation to the cemetery here. Make sure in the special notes section you list your name or names for each entry. And just in case you were wondering. Here's a partial line-up for the year's Ghost of Uncle Joe's Halloween Party this year. 17 Year Cicada - New Works by Kayt Hester

SAT 08/24 @ 9pm Port-o- Lounge he 17 Year Cicada – New Art Work by Kayt Hester – opens August 24th at Port- O Lounge, one of the handful of downtown Jersey City restaurants/art galleries that, by presenting to new audiences, up & coming and established local artists, are transforming the New York Metropolitan area Art World. As the title of the exhibition suggests, this edition of the yearly Hester Summer Showcase coalesces around the theme of Magicada Cicadas – the species of cicadas that only appear every 17 years. Her more recent work also expands her use of texture and color. Augmenting her black masking tape are new, extraordinary details made of brightly colored, metallic tape. She also has incorporated embroidery to canvases, essentially embedding 21st century needlepoint within her tape illustrations.

58 Gallery Reunion Show

Opening F 6 to 9 pm Mary Benson Galleryey everybody, there once was this place called 58 gallery in dtjc showed some of the best art around by some of the best emerging artist around, it coupled the shows with sounds and visuals "that would create an atmosphere unlike any in nyc" holland cotter ny times...and it did a bunch of other things to strengthen the artist community between 2002-2012. it closed in 2012. some of the pioneers and trendsetters of that time are gathering for the start of this amazing series of shows. stay tuned for more info. www.fifty8.com

The Attic Ensemble Presents

Nov 7 to 18h @ Barrow Mansion | August, 1949. A fascinatingly realistic picture of routine cases brought into a bustling metropolitan police station in the course of an evening. Out of the welter of human misery, vice and foolishness there emerges the moving case of a decent young man who has stolen money from his employer; a hardened criminal dragging his young friend down with him; a lawless NJ "gardener" with a corrupt lawyer; and others. In the throes of the tumult is Detective McLeod -- a man whose black & white vision of justice will be challenged by the woman he loves most: his wife. A cast of 22 men and women will bring this drama of truth and consequences to life on the stage.
