Here we go 2013 coming to a close. All right dust of your tux for a seven to 8 hour night, that could either end up with you Taking the Polar Bear Plunge at Coney Island or Brunch. After waking to the sound of 2013 ringing in at Sushi Tango last year, I am happy again to spending the days leading up to and away from 2014 cleaning up for a party and after a party. The street address is the same as in the past, but this years festivities at 58 Coles Street will be the debut event for the Moonlight Mile Recording Studio. Transplanted from Hoboken to make room for more luxury condos, Mike Mobius is showcasing The Wreaths and Thomas Francis Takes His Chances. After the ball drop and the bands are done, we will follow up with a Dance Party til late with George Soul Fern | Motor Funker | Dancing Tony and Brian Jones. doors are at 10 pm $10 before bands 1:30 am / $5 afterwards BYOB OK.
2012 NYE's Band Wyldlife and Shayfer James are both in NYC for NYE this year. Shayfer James plays a FREE show at Rockwood Music Hall at 9 pm, and Wyldlife play at "Ball Drop" is in Brooklyn for a GlamDamnit NYE at Victory Hall in Brooklyn. Here in Lucky 7's, LITM, and Abbey's, and the Corkscrew all have a COVER FREE NYE, as do many other bars. Lucky 7's Regular Punk Rock DJ's Brain DJ SUP Babes Grundle and Chuck Daly [JC Tattoo Co] spin vinyl til 4am. DJ Mike is at LITM, and it's a Free Jukebox at Abbeys.
If you are looking for something more refined Satis Bistro, GP's, and Madame Claude both offer a Fixed Menu with champagne and the fixings. Make your reservations ! Motor Funker rings in teh New Yaer at Satis before his second set at Moonlight Mile. More than a House Band, Madamme Claude's Manouch Bag will take you into 2014.
Whatever, you choose, please have a safe and happy new year's eve. Speaking of, please take a minute and read up on the proposed change in Ambulance Contract from Jersey City Medical Center to CarePoint/McCabe. A couple of months ago, when I saw JCMC EMTs with a petition at the Bagel shop, I didn't thin much of it. But the more I hear, the more against I am having the for-profit CarePoint/McCabe take over. please help save our EMS.
Be on the look out for a newly designed Rock-it Docket for 2014, along with all the good things that an official information source should have like advertising, I can do this for free anymore JC.
If you made it this far, which according to research you stop reading about 3 paragraphs ago; Get some laughs in today at Comedy Clips at Balance Salon 5pm on Sunday.

Thank you again to everyone who came out to last Saturday's Pay to Play Fundraiser for Philippine Typhoon and Flood Relief. This week also marks LITM's 10 year anniversary. Thursday Night it's Oyster's and Champagne and Super swanky party will be on Saturday Night. On Monday, we will be raising funds for The Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair. marking our 23rd Year my Montclair State Brethren the Derelict Garden Tools will host the 23rd Annual Pagan Thanksgiving Feast at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair. We will cook about 8 Turkeys, 4 Hams and 50 pounds of Mashed Potatoes with Stuffing and Gravy Boat bigger than the QE2. If you have time, make a complimentary side dish, if not no worries we want you to come support the Human Needs Food Pantry. Also no fear Vegetarians, there's always a Tofurkey.
Through Thanksgiving week, there are plenty of events to remind us all that life's struggle is not a one person journey and that the human spirit is stronger bond that any indifference. You can donate goods to The Urban Mission Church . In addition, The Iron Monkey hosts dinner for over 500 needy neighbors on Thanksgiving. Here's a link to some events from last year, that are most likely hosting events this year.
Finally, after doing good helping others we all need to let loose and get Wild. And as Thanksgiving Traditions go, I know of no other better reason to [perhaps a little foolishly] invite some friends and soon to be friends over for a good old Fashion House Party. This year's costumed theme is WILD KINGDOM. Think Royal Safari Adventure and you can get zoo-ed up or be a real princess. As always, have a WILD time but leave your Barbarian Friends at home !!

Au Reviore Jersey City & The Ghost of Uncle Joe's 10/26
Bon Jour from Canada my friends, with an almost economic doom facing America, I've hitched a ride with The Front Bottoms for my first stint as a merch girl/ sound guy. During my conditional absence, I have left Running Fun to Neil McAneny, Ladies Night [this Thursday] to Steff Kautzmann aka DJ Street Justice. and what's left of the Dancing Tony Empire, more specifically this Saturday Night's Danceteria at Lucky 7's to DJ's Glitterous & Glamourous. In the meantime, I'll be enjoying free healthcare, along with Hockey and Poutine here in Canada.
If things do work out for the good old USA, we'll be coming back through Rochester, NY on Saturday Night, then continuing back to Jersey City on Sunday. Just in time for this year's Ghost of Uncle Joe's Halloween Fundraiser at the Historic JC and Harsimus Cemetery on Saturday October 26th. Here's the killer line-up for this year :

Just a scheduling note: in the event of bad weather on Saturday, we'll have the event on Sunday, with Roxy Music and another band playing at the Lamp Post on Saturday Night. If the weather isn't good for Sunday, we will have the vent indoors at Art House Productions at 1 McWilliams Place.

3.2.1. Dodgeball ! 17 years since my last blog post
Really not that long, but it has been 17 years since the Cicadas last emerged from their sex deprived hibernation. This Saturday, we celebrate their return with new works by Kayt Hester at Port-O Lounge. Opening starts at 9 pm. I've got the DJ reins after 10 pm..
Earlier on that Saturday, the JC Olympics continues with sports 3 and 4 of the Sex-Tathalon with Dodgeball and Shuffleboard at noon. We'll be at the Skate Park at Enus Jones Field [Pavonia and Brunswick St.'s] at noon setting up. First games are at 1 pm. So far we've raised about $300 for the JC Recreation Foundation. Sadly, WE would have raised more money, but the Mayor beats us at the Belmar Chase 5K two weeks ago, plus a bunch of us we're drinking at that time and unable to participate.
On Sunday, a fundraiser that is guaranteed to get you soaked takes place at the Boys and Girls club on Sunday Aug 25th. Apparently, not since Hurricane Sandy will so much water be rained on our citizens. The event is a BYOB [balloon] affair benefiting the Boys and Girls Clubs of Jersey City. Don't worry about running out of ammo, JC Municipal registration for the event is here www.jcwaterballoon.com.
I'm DJing tonight Thursday for Ladies Night at Lucky 7's. DJ William McCamie is up at Sanai's on Summit Ave. On Saturday Night, Motor Funker Radio spins and Monday....Metal Madess with DJ Moranis is on the decks both at Lucky's .
Groove on Grove is finishing up our final two showcases starting with our Back to School Special Showcase on August 28th with JC Young and Emerging Artist taking the stage this Wednesday at 5pm. Then we'll close things off with our JC Fridays Finale with Bryan Benninghove's Hangmen, Kiwi, The One and Nines, and Rebeca Vallejo. JC Fridays will also mark the return of art at 58 Coles Street with Quadrivium by Maurizio Zuluga. A full listing of JC Fridays events is here.
On Saturday September 7th, we'll be hosting an all DJ fundraiser for the Historic JC and Harsimus Cemetery. This Private event requires you to RSVP and buy tickets in advance. You can do so by paypaling a $10 donation or an VIP $25 donation to the cemetery here. Make sure in the special notes section you list your name or names for each entry. And just in case you were wondering. Here's a partial line-up for the year's Ghost of Uncle Joe's Halloween Party this year. Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Sly and the Family Stone, The Doors, Roxy Music, B-52's, Radiohead, Weezer, The Violent Femmes, The Who, Cream, Joy Division, plus plus.

We Hold These Truths to Be Self Evident
My fellow Americans [and those soon to be on the 13 year pathway to citizenship],
Please join us down at the Morris Canal Park [the end of Washington Street] , aka, the Jetty, aka Peninsula Park for our annual, 4th of July BBQ. There will be Volleyball, Music, Frisbee, Sun, karaoke and a total obstructed view of the Macy's Fireworks. Like all great BBQ's, this country was built on hard work and determination of our citizens and a skyrocketing national debt. So if you are coming please come at noon to help set-up, stay late to help clean-up, bring something to share besides a pack of cigarettes, or be kind enough to offer some currency.
We will have two grills, and coolers. It's always smart to bring something for the cooler and maybe some ice as it will be a hot day. We set up at noon. Also maybe bring your horseshoes or boccie ball set ? Lawn darts anyone.
After the non-fireworks: I'll be DJing at Lucky 7's Lady Liberty Party at 10 pm. I'm also DJing this Saturday with Bram Teitelman aka bramphetamine expect punk, '80s/'90s alt stuff, some metal and current stuff
Just a quick follow up the JC Summer Olympics start on Saturday July 27th with Volleyball and Wiffleball at Morris Canal. Contact me or Post on the page if you are interested in hosting a Team.,

It is truly an Honor
Ah, the unofficial start of the summer, beaches, bbqs, and "incredible blow-out super summer prices" A true American dream, not brought to you by Marlboro, Budweiser, of Ford but by the American Servicemen and Woman who fought for and in some cases gave their lives for our everyday freedoms.
Please take a moment of remembrance for them today. If you want something more formal, head up the the Historic JC & Harsimus Cemetery for a beautiful Memorial Day Tribute "HONORING OUR HEROES" -this Monday at 1 p.m. - at Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery, 435 Newark Avenue, Jersey City. This is a free public patriotic military & musical tribute for our thousand of soldiers. It's really lovely. Also, Very exicted to announce that our very own beautiful and talented niece, Ms. ANNA MILANI, (Just turned 10!) (Caroling & Dave's daughter) will be leading off our program this year singing The National Anthem!!! Also, our lovely Ms. Chimene Petitt will be entertaining the troops with her Hudson View Ensemble, along with our very own Piano Man Mr. Aart Markenstein performing too, along with yours truly!! Hope you will try to make it & join me in also honoring our Dad & Grandpa, Sergeant James Carr, & a special salute to my two favorite nephew soldiers, Tommy & Judy's sons Ryan & Chris Carr. The program runs about 1 hour , 20 minutes. Afterwards, our volunteers & some families/friends will stay on and join us for a Bar-B-Q. Hope you can come. Flyer is attached. Please try to let me know if you think you might come and stay for the BBQ, so we can plan enough food! But if we run out, there's always lots of extra berries, plus the 200 year old natural Colonial Romaine lettuce!!! [from Eileen Markestein, Exec Director]
Additionally, we will be having a Volleyball|Wiffleball|BBQ at Morris Canal at 1pm. Text me if you need some advice on what to bring.
