All Hands on Decks

I've got more [DJ] slots than a casino this weekend. So polish up your dancing shoes, here we go: Tonight, I'm at Lucky's for Thursday Night's Ladies Night. Ladies, you know the deal, 50% off everything, bring a designated sober lady :) so you don't make a bad judgement call.

This Friday and Saturday is the debut opening of Surf City's Party Dome [think something like this okay maybe not maybe an indoor Xanadu, without the ski mountain, and billions of dollars of cost overruns, but room a plenty for you and 500 of your best friends and a killer sound system. This Friday, I'm tapping DJ Pastiche [LITM] for a an all styles - stylin dance party. This Saturday, I knock on my roommates door [after noon] and DJ WILLIAM MCCAMIE [CAPS LOCK INTENTIONAL - INDUSTRY NIGHT SUNDAYS AT L7's] for an 80's Dance Party, pack your roller skates this is going to be fun. You are all on the guest list, really, it's FREE.

With me returning to my Chess King | Merry Go Round days, I've tapped DJ Stay Golden Pony Boy and Mistr Blonde to take reins for this Saturdays at Lucky Sevens. These guys combined have less chest hair than an nursery ward, but don't let their youth and good looks fool you they pack a power punch of music with them.

That's my jams for this weekend, minus a Saturday AM moped-promotion ride to hang up posters for the Bad Cop | Ghost Dance | Papermaker | Western Medicine show at Maxwell's on Tues October 16th. Which will come right on the heels of the 9th Annual 4th Street Art and Music Festival as part of next weekend's JC Artists Studio Tour [click these links for a full line-up]. For those looking to volunteer for the 4th street art & music festival, there's a meeting tonight.

For this weekend, if we can't be together, please take five minutes of stage time at the Season Kick-off of Art House Productions, and recite your poem, song, or comedy routine about how much you miss me. Showtime is 8 pm on Thursday Night $5 with featured artist Jennifer Egert. On Saturday Night, ArtHouse does some serious Time Shifting with Experimental Art and Live Music. If you get stuck in the 70's come by Surf City afterwards we can at least get you into the 80's.

With a very special guest, the one and only Rum Queen, Natalie Jacob of Papa's Pilar Rum! John Ernst and Joe Donohue are donning Grass Skirts while shaking their coconuts behind the bar. Zoey Ramone will be back in her little tattoo shack and of course I’ll be spinning all things Hawaii, Surf, Skate, Lounge and anything else that reminds you of Summer. So catch a wave, walk don’t run or ski or use the Light Railbut get to D.C.’s Tavern this First Thursday because it is TIKI TIME!

PATHS THAT CROSS : Photography Show at 313 Gallery

03/01 & JCF 5 to 9 pm : Paths That Cross is a visual art experience comprised of works both in photography and video. The work reflects the artists finding their own space in this song to create and reflect. Faet artists : Allana Clarke, Cristine Posner, Gabriella Chavez, Cathleen Marie Thérèse Parra, Kelly Schirmer, Fredrick Macaraeg, Amanda Unger, Rita Jimenez, Roxana Zavala Marroquin, Melissa Büsing, Dakota Santiago, Albamaria Escalante, Kathleen Odenthal, Grace Morchel, and Leona Strassberg Steiner.

17 Year Cicada - New Works by Kayt Hester

SAT 08/24 @ 9pm Port-o- Lounge he 17 Year Cicada – New Art Work by Kayt Hester – opens August 24th at Port- O Lounge, one of the handful of downtown Jersey City restaurants/art galleries that, by presenting to new audiences, up & coming and established local artists, are transforming the New York Metropolitan area Art World. As the title of the exhibition suggests, this edition of the yearly Hester Summer Showcase coalesces around the theme of Magicada Cicadas – the species of cicadas that only appear every 17 years. Her more recent work also expands her use of texture and color. Augmenting her black masking tape are new, extraordinary details made of brightly colored, metallic tape. She also has incorporated embroidery to canvases, essentially embedding 21st century needlepoint within her tape illustrations.

The 21st Annual Pagan Thanksgiving Feast Where: Halcyon, 114 Walnut Street, Montclair (Next door to Egan's. Parking in back or at the train station) When: The Monday Before Thanksgiving - November 21, 2011 Why: Libations - 7 PM, Dinner - 8:30 (we promise multiple food stations this year!) Who: Everyone, and anyone you want to bring, all are welcome. How: Remember to bring a side dish or homemade dessert Bonus!: Get your muscles primed for the Annual Wishbone Grudge Match! The 21st Pagan Thanksgiving Feast is upon us and from every nook and cranny the weird and wonderful will gather for an evening of full throated frivolity! We will gorge and devour! We will cackle and hoot! Glasses will empty, plates will be licked clean! In the end we will be emerge with bursting bellies, fizzy heads and murky memories. This year we are back at HALCYON in Montclair (next door to Egan's). Feel free to invite any demons you desire: friends and neighbors, families and co-workers, the more the merrier. We'll cook up the turkeys, the ham, the potatoes and the stuffing. All you need to bring is your momma's best side dish or a homemade dessert. No need to bring booze - the bar will be open all night. Every year, we pass the hat to benefit the Human Needs Food Pantry, which has enriched the lives of Montclair residents since 1982.

58 Gallery Reunion Show

Opening F 6 to 9 pm Mary Benson Galleryey everybody, there once was this place called 58 gallery in dtjc showed some of the best art around by some of the best emerging artist around, it coupled the shows with sounds and visuals "that would create an atmosphere unlike any in nyc" holland cotter ny times...and it did a bunch of other things to strengthen the artist community between 2002-2012. it closed in 2012. some of the pioneers and trendsetters of that time are gathering for the start of this amazing series of shows. stay tuned for more info. www.fifty8.com

The Attic Ensemble Presents

Nov 7 to 18h @ Barrow Mansion | August, 1949. A fascinatingly realistic picture of routine cases brought into a bustling metropolitan police station in the course of an evening. Out of the welter of human misery, vice and foolishness there emerges the moving case of a decent young man who has stolen money from his employer; a hardened criminal dragging his young friend down with him; a lawless NJ "gardener" with a corrupt lawyer; and others. In the throes of the tumult is Detective McLeod -- a man whose black & white vision of justice will be challenged by the woman he loves most: his wife. A cast of 22 men and women will bring this drama of truth and consequences to life on the stage.
