Thanks to everyone who made it our for the St. Mathew's Food Pantry Bowling Benefit on Sunday. If you haven't made it our yet. you may have to wait until July for our summer BBQ. If the weather is right, we'll be getting back to volleyball this Sunday. Be at Morris Canal. aka the Jetty. aka Peninsula Park around 1pm. First and foremost we need a body bag size duffel bag for the net, so email me if you have one to give. In addition, I'll be asking everyone to chip in about $20 this year for some equipment upgrades. This Sunday will dust the rust off and play around. Hope to see you then. Tonight, I am DJ'ing at the Lamp Post. Uncle Joe's and Corkscrew veteran Joe Conderacci will be bartending. the Cat Juggler is on a Milk and Cookies diet until the Amsterdance Party next Saturday at 58. Get your Orange out for a Red Light District worthy party. Shell Shag is lined up for an early performance and Lex Leonard and Appetite also spin.
If you still haven't gotten tickets for the PADNA benefit this Saturday night. If you think you can spend $5 an hour at a bar that night instead. do so. Continuing to move backwards on the calender, the closing party for the current exhibition at Mary Benson Gallery is this Friday from 6 to 9 pm.
We are putting together a Sketch-a-thon for Wednesday May 28th at 58. The event is based upon the Dr. Sketchy model. Best described as where cabaret meets art. Take a look save the date . more info to follow.

Dorothy was right
I am home. My home. My Apartment. My Bed. My Dogs. My Weak Dollar. And my friends. Don't get me wrong, we had a great time with friends in London and how could I not have a good time in Amsterdam ? even if I was half-lost the entire time. But it's great to be back and it was nice to have the week off.
Actually let me get back to Amsterdam, since it was my 3rd time there. I finally rented a bike and traveled outside of town to Rotterdam. There, I had the best fried mussels and fried fish ever. And being on a bike, that was the jam, even though you get lost quicker. But even so, I kept on looking for a place that was more like home than the usually half assed crappy coffeeshop or some tourist f+cking bar. I mean just because you are high it does not mean that you should decorate your establishment with a giant teddy bear in a hammock. Yeah it looked good at the time, but to tell you the truth "what the f*ck Amsterdam you and your drum and bass blaring coffeeshop can got f=ck yourself :) " . Next time I am going to stay out of town maybe Delft or somewhere where they get less tourist so the people are nicer. So I instead, I ended up missing Jersey City. I did have two good nights of dancing regardless and no I didn't shag a hooker.
Well I am back into the swing of things.
Tonight DJ Cat Juggler returns from Vegas to spin at the Lamp Post. This Friday, Guilt Trip and and Special Guests play at Toyeaters. The show is a benefit for fellow tattoo artist "Wild" Bill who passed away last week. Money will help his family pay for hospital and funeral expenses. In Newark on Friday, Theory and Practice opens at Gallery Aferro 7-10 PM. Curated by Evonne M. Davis. The shopw features JC Resident Amanda Thackary and Doris Coviello.
Saturdays a bit of an open slot right now. I ahve a hunch their may be a closing Party at the Lex Leonard Gallery ?
Yesterdays, Star Ledger had and article about the oldest functioning bowling alley in the state of New Jersey. The recently renovated 3 lane bolwing alley is infortunately 3 years younger than the two lanes at Barrow. If you haven't seen it, come on this Sunday, Bryan Benninghove and the Campbell Apartment, who will be touring Canada in May play the Bowling at Barrow Mansion. DJ Neil "Eggs" McAnemy spins in beteween . Again folks it's a fund raiser so $10 at the door with a food donation. There's enough grubfor your dinner, music, and bowling.
Since, I am on the fund raising vibe. Just wanted to plug that American Watercolor Movement, Tremble in teh Heat and THe Meltdowns will be performing at 150 Bay Street next Saturday as a benefit for the PADNA Legal Fund. Hey kids,
I'll be away until next Wednesday. Hope you check out tonight's art opening at 58. It should be a real jam with 58 artists presenting. The Roller Girls take to the hardwood tonight for this years season opener. Saturday is the art talk and closing reception for WWIII at Manna Fine Arts from 4 to 8 pm.
Many of you have access to my apartment. If the weather is nice the net is there for volleyball on Sunday .
Oh I am using a MAC so I can not figure out how to Plug the Sum of All Parts in Hoboken on Monday, you can watch half of the video (the left side).

PU - I am leaving Jersey City (for vacation)
This is my last weekend in Jersey City before I head off to London and Amsterdam for a wekk's vacation. As you can assume, I don't plan be updating my blog whiel I am away. Email at rockitdocket@gmail.com if you have any must sees or dos. Especially if you have a friend I could crash with in Amsterdam. By the way, my place will not be available for after parties while I am gone.
If you are looking for a place, a car, a studio, or Church Pews, check out the Unclassified section of my blog. First with the church pews, we drove all the way up to Portland, Maine last week to pick up these solid oak pews. We have 8, 9, and 11 foot ones for sale ($11 a foot). Second, thanks to the mortgage crisis, the rental market for JC seems to be getting cheaper. My apologies to home owners, but for the rest of us in the low class, opportunities are opening up. In fact in light of the recession, new discounts (and misery) are just up the street.
Fifty Eight also has studio space available for rent. And on the same count 58 is available to rent for a private function. You can email me or call me for details.
All right, I am back at the Lamp Post this evening. And although my music catalogue has not grown in two years. I can guarantee you that I will still play the very same stuff that you have all grown tired of. Bring your earplugs or your iPOD to tune me out, or even better I will play your new Miriah Carey. Beforehand, I am going to visit the grand opening of the newly located Another Man's Treasure on Marin Blvd. Occupying, the space formerly occupied by Janam Tea Shop. Warren and Meeka have transformed the hot teapot spot into a groovy hot spot. The preview party is from 7 to 10 pm.
Music wise, Billy Filo's new band, Twilight Procession plays at the Luna Lounge tonight. I also got word that The Gay Blades are playing in Brooklyn as well as part of the Deli Magazines party at Galapagos in Williamsburg. Tonight, Jersey City's longest running spoken word, poetry and music night is at the Art House at 7:30 pm. That's your Thursday For you lets talk about the weekend.
On Friday Night, the Mary Bensen Gallery and es ORO on Brunswick both have art openings. Just got word that their is also an art opening at Sweet Priscilla's and at Bagua Juice on Friday Night. Located almost around the corner from each other, you can catch them both in one evening. On Saturday Night, we have the closing party for KWALITY at 58. Keeping with his theme, Joe Waks is slashing prices to clear inventory, so bring a wad of cash or your checkbook. In addition, LITM has an art opening on Saturday Night. Check their website for the details.
Sunday's weather looks decent enough for our first Volleyball games at Peninsula Park (end of Washington-by the Portside Towers) show up at 1 pm for set up. For those of you new to this scene we play pick-up games every sunny Sunday. We are going to need some new equipment this year so be prepared to donate about $20 for this season. Thursday is the New Friday
Okay. If you are watching the clock waiting for 5pm. Here's your first stop. My roomate, DJ Willliam McCamie is on his way there now.
The weekend starts early thanks to some clever work by God's son. For those of you with tomorrow off (and even if you don't) there's a full week-end ahaed. This Evening, Artist and Curator, Nugyen Smith has an opening reception at the JC Museum. His work SPRAWL will be at the museum for month's ahead. Tonight's reception is from 6 to 8 pm. You can also catch a performace by Nimbus Dance Troup for Grace Church's Maundy Thursday Service at 7pm. Meanwhile, The Ukaladies play Hank's Saloon in Brooklyn at 10 pm and Bryan Benninghove is in Hoboken.
I will be returning to my Dance duties at the Lamp Post tonight. You can expect the dancefloor set up with DJ Cat Juggler and I spinning and Ali making you spin from behind the bar. I'll be hanging around the DJ world all weekend. As on Friday, I'll be spining the closing party for Gordon Fraser's Intoversions on the Third Floor of the Grassroots Arts Facility. The Pocono's and Tremble in the Heat (fmr Savu Sea) rock it out. Things start early so take the day off on Friday.
Afterwards, I plan to head back to the Lamp Post for DJ Caligula's Birthday Dance Party. With DJ Cat Juggler providing cover for the self proclaimed "best dj in jc".
There's more live music to be had on Friday with The Plastiq Passion Band playing at The Fortune Cookie (Lucky Chang's) in the city. WJ and the Sweet Sacrifice along with Roadside Graves are playing at the Trash Bar in Brooklyn. WJ plays atearly (take the day off) at 8pm. Unfortunately for them, but good for you, is an Open Bar from 8 to 9 pm. Make sureyou pass some up to them. They are followed by another JC group the Roadside Graves.
On Staurtday Night, The Subway Surfers Return to JC for a show at the Lamp Post. They are matched with Six to Eight Mathmatics. The Meltdown's play Toyeater's as part of Jen's 30th birthday party. I'll be joining forces with Street Justice for my third straight night of DJ-ing. Have a nice Easter, or whatever you plan to do on Sunday.

The show is titled SPRAWL and it is part of the Jersey City museum's Spring 2008 season. Tell a friend or two. I guess there really should be that much of a rush. Although named after our imminant future, WWWIII is part of the _gaia studios Wonder Women Project and teh reception is this evening from now to 10 pm. If you haven't left the city yet, try to catch the consent show at CUNY. Former JC Resident Herny Sanchez works are in at and yes, it started right now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tonight, the Poconos are playing at asbury Lanes in Asbury Park. This Sunday is the second installment of Bowling at Barrow Mansion. It's a Benefit for the St. Matthews Food Party. $10 donation w/a non perishible food donations. There will be live music by the House of Leaves and my good friend Jeremy Wallace. Put on your rollerskates becuase this is going to roll by quickly. First Hiroshi Kumagai is curating Strange Country a show of 3 talented photographers, Melissa Buesing, Colleen Gutwein and Greg Maka at WALDO LOFTS. Thomas J Carlson is curating a group show at Toyeaters. Upstairs at the Lex Leonard Gallery, you'll find A Fool in the Eyes of God, a solo by artist Kevin Darmanie. For this exhibition, Darmanie uses oversized comics to chronicle a fictional character’s (a young islander named Kedar) journey into faith and temptation. At 58 you'll find works by Joe Waks (see flyer on right). And of course, Art House Productions, has art and live performances to celebrate.
Mixing performance with a new installation of circus like posings by photographer Virginia Kamintzer. Balance Hair Slaon is doing a musical fashion show appropriately named Scary puppets . At Another Mna's Treasure, Melissa Surtach (Babyhole) is performing her vintage style of comedy dressed in vintage. At Grace Church, the Nimbus Dance Group is having an open rehearsal from 6 to 9 pm. At the Jersey City Tattoo Comapny, Any Day Parade and Palmyra plays from 8 to 10 pm.

SCARY PUPPETS," A MUSICAL FASHION SHOW happens this Friday nite!
Our contribution to the JC Fridays festival here in Beautiful Downtown Jersey City will be a way-out fashion show to complement 18 ERIE GALLERY's opening reception for Virginia Kamenitzer's photographic series, "QUI J'EST?" ("Who Am I?"), inspired by the surreal world of circus performers and children's stories. Our show will feature live models dressed as your favorite vintage puppets. Sure, they'll be wearing fabulous clothes and have fabulous haircuts by Balance, but what could be more disturbing than a bunch of life-sized, self-propelled puppets? Of course the soundtrack will showcase The Swigs' song "Scary Puppets" (now our theme song)! The gallery will also be showing "Raise Your Hand If You Believe in Evolution," a new installation of ceiling art by Mindy Gluck.
PLUS...our makeup artists will be standing by to paint puppet mouths on anyone who wants to be a Scary Puppet!
So come get a puppet face & enjoy the shows, the party and new light sculptures by our resident artist, Norm Francoeur!

It has been quite some time. I would like to announce the next exhibition that I’ve curated at the Lex Leonard Gallery titled:
A Fool in the Eyes of God which is a solo show by artist Kevin Darmanie. For this exhibition, Darmanie uses oversized comics to chronicle a fictional character’s (a young islander named Kedar) journey into faith and temptation.
The coordination of this exhibition has been a great experience for both Kevin and I, as we have worked and re-worked the concepts, ideas, and body of work to bring you a show we are both proud of. We request the honor of your presence:

Thanks to everyone who came out to Damien's 25th birthday and Fundraiser for Cambodian Street Children. This event raised over $1,8000 for charity. Damien made one hell of a birthday present for 2,400 children that will be fed with that money. Renata also told me that the Threads Fashion Show had to turn away people at the JC Museum on Sunday.
There are a couple of things going on that could use some charitable help. Heather Warfel is looking for large picture frames to be used for an upcoming dance project in here words
" The Dance Program I direct at County Prep High School is busy preparing for our annual dance concert. As part of this year’s theme, we are looking to collect a large number of picture frames to incorporate into the set and use as props. We specifically need very large frames (at least 24” x 24” or larger) and 5”x7” frames. The color/style/condition does not matter (even really old or falling apart is fine!), and we need only the frame (no glass or backing). If you have frames you can donate (preferable) or loan for the months of March, April, & May it would be GREATLY appreciated. I can arrange to pick them up from you as well. Getting further into the weekend, on the Friday the real grand opening for the es ORO gallery is this Friday from 7 to 11 pm. The installation by Gallery founder, Eto Oro isfollowed by an artist talk on Sunday. At 58, on Saturday, we'll be closing up Whitewashed : A Look at American Revisionist History. It's the final night of the show, so it's a cash and carry event.
Afterwards, we'll all be heading over to Toyeaters for a special CD release Party by Philly's Robin Hood Robbie Rich, all the information is on the top right. I don't like repeating myself.
Also on teh live muisc side, Bon Bomb plays Thursday in the Upper East Side. On Friday, WJ and teh Sweet Sacrifice and Any Day Parade Play at the Cake Shop. And the Funerla Crashers Crash Crash Mansion. The Meltdowns are in Brooklyn at the Charleston Bar.

The World is Sinking - and will go under at 9 pm tonight
OK, since I haven't been able to get my blog out before Babyhole (tonight @ 9pm).
This one is just for you, Mellisa, sweet Gynocult Leader.
Babyhole, is a not-for-poets open mike comedy night. There is usually a musical guest, and she also books comdians whom range from stand up to sketch.
As a special incentive to the ladies, Mellisa is throwing in a secret prize (most likely a pregnancy kit from the 99 cent store) for the first female open mike performer. (see message below)
BabyHole has been running since September and no woman has ever signed up for the open mic. Just guys who don't seem to get laid.So the first lady to sign up for BabyHole Open Mic (for stand up, sketch and musical comedy) will win a prize. I don't know what yet, but it will probably include a bottle of champagne that I'll be forced to drink by myself if no woman signs up by 9:30 pm.
Don't worry about Mellisa drinking alone though, word on the street is that she has a bun in the oven.

OK. you got 36 hours to buy the diamond pendant, a dozen roses, and a pregnancy kit. Good luck lovers. But, if you really want to pick up something already used before , Come out to a thread Swap on 169 Christopher Columbus atJersey at Jayne (l7) and Christina's. Although mostly ladies may be parusing the contents, guys can can still get your swap on by bringing beers and playing Mr. Mirror. Things start at 8:16, and any left over clothes will be donated to teh Salvation Army via Iroc-z. On Saturday, JC Bridge and Pummel Captain, Layla Smackdown, is hosting a Portland, Or-all-gone sale in the heights . It's an all must go sale-a-bration.
Unfortunatley (for us) , also finding a new home in Portland is Jersey City's Best Tea Shop Ever. Janam. Mark your calander's for Super Send-off on Sunday February 24th. The Tea will always be available on-line, just the walk will be longer. Earlier on that Sunday, The JC Museum is hosting Threads : A Wearable Art Fashion Show.

Of course, the un-real anti- valentine's day is still on the 14th. Work is almost done on the bacteria free kissing boothe. We now have the 3 barstools needed for the Dating Game. Bring your best break-up letter for whiskey shots and a picture of your ex for the dart board.

Flaming Fire has just released a new CD titled Kentuky Shroud. Armed with a new line-up the band puts practice to the test on Friday Night at Union Pool in Brooklyn. And on Saturday American Watercolor Movement and the Dragons of Zynth help celebrate the new CD at Maxwell's. Headliners, The Dragons of Zynth are a fierce Psych Rock Band. Come early the line-up is all good.
Inside the city line, Punk Rockers Guilt Trip play the Iron Monkey with the Meltdowns playing at the Lamp Post. On Sunday Night Mikey V-M (American Watercolor Movement and Sophelia) plays an acoustic set at Janam. The Black Hollies are throwing out a New CD at Maxwells with The Coffin Daggers and The Insomniacs in support. Show starts Sharp at 8:30.

Howdy! Flaming Fire is playing in Brooklyn on Friday and Hoboken on Saturday! We're going to have TWO crazed and revelrous CD release parties for "Kentucky Shroud," the album that we're releasing with WFMU's help--they're our first shows around home since last summer! Hope you can make it, the other bands are really amazing: Dragons of Zynth, Beat Circus, American Watercolor Movement, Jared Whitham, Unicornicopia, Nat Benjamin from the Flesh.
