Put on your rollerskates becuase this is going to roll by quickly. First Hiroshi Kumagai is curating Strange Country a show of 3 talented photographers, Melissa Buesing, Colleen Gutwein and Greg Maka at WALDO LOFTS. Thomas J Carlson is curating a group show at Toyeaters. Upstairs at the Lex Leonard Gallery, you'll find A Fool in the Eyes of God, a solo by artist Kevin Darmanie. For this exhibition, Darmanie uses oversized comics to chronicle a fictional character’s (a young islander named Kedar) journey into faith and temptation. At 58 you'll find works by Joe Waks (see flyer on right). And of course, Art House Productions, has art and live performances to celebrate.

Mixing performance with a new installation of circus like posings by photographer Virginia Kamintzer. Balance Hair Slaon is doing a musical fashion show appropriately named Scary puppets . At Another Mna's Treasure, Melissa Surtach (Babyhole) is performing her vintage style of comedy dressed in vintage. At Grace Church, the Nimbus Dance Group is having an open rehearsal from 6 to 9 pm. At the Jersey City Tattoo Comapny, Any Day Parade and Palmyra plays from 8 to 10 pm.

SCARY PUPPETS," A MUSICAL FASHION SHOW happens this Friday nite!

Our contribution to the JC Fridays festival here in Beautiful Downtown Jersey City will be a way-out fashion show to complement 18 ERIE GALLERY's opening reception for Virginia Kamenitzer's photographic series, "QUI J'EST?" ("Who Am I?"), inspired by the surreal world of circus performers and children's stories. Our show will feature live models dressed as your favorite vintage puppets. Sure, they'll be wearing fabulous clothes and have fabulous haircuts by Balance, but what could be more disturbing than a bunch of life-sized, self-propelled puppets? Of course the soundtrack will showcase The Swigs' song "Scary Puppets" (now our theme song)! The gallery will also be showing "Raise Your Hand If You Believe in Evolution," a new installation of ceiling art by Mindy Gluck.

PLUS...our makeup artists will be standing by to paint puppet mouths on anyone who wants to be a Scary Puppet!

So come get a puppet face & enjoy the shows, the party and new light sculptures by our resident artist, Norm Francoeur!

And remember kids, no pooping at Balance.
So, take your drunken turds somewhere else!

It's been fun being at home and watching our boy Daniel Day Lewis win a well deserved golden bald man. "If I have a milkshake.....and YOU have a milkshake..."
We also just recorded 2 new songs for the "physical" release of our album. Thanks to everyone who came out to Damien's 25th birthday and Fundraiser for Cambodian Street Children. This event raised over $1,8000 for charity. Damien made one hell of a birthday present for 2,400 children that will be fed with that money. Renata also told me that the Threads Fashion Show had to turn away people at the JC Museum on Sunday.

There are a couple of things going on that could use some charitable help. Heather Warfel is looking for large picture frames to be used for an upcoming dance project in here words

" The Dance Program I direct at County Prep High School is busy preparing for our annual dance concert. As part of this year’s theme, we are looking to collect a large number of picture frames to incorporate into the set and use as props. We specifically need very large frames (at least 24” x 24” or larger) and 5”x7” frames. The color/style/condition does not matter (even really old or falling apart is fine!), and we need only the frame (no glass or backing). If you have frames you can donate (preferable) or loan for the months of March, April, & May it would be GREATLY appreciated. I can arrange to pick them up from you as well. Oh smack, I have been so busy, I didn't mention that Art House Production Founder and Holder of the Key to JC, Christine Goodman is offering acting classes. Getting further into the weekend, on the Friday the real grand opening for the es ORO gallery is this Friday from 7 to 11 pm. The installation by Gallery founder, Eto Oro isfollowed by an artist talk on Sunday. At 58, on Saturday, we'll be closing up Whitewashed : A Look at American Revisionist History. It's the final night of the show, so it's a cash and carry event.

Afterwards, we'll all be heading over to Toyeaters for a special CD release Party by Philly's Robin Hood Robbie Rich, all the information is on the top right. I don't like repeating myself.

Also on teh live muisc side, Bon Bomb plays Thursday in the Upper East Side. On Friday, WJ and teh Sweet Sacrifice and Any Day Parade Play at the Cake Shop. And the Funerla Crashers Crash Crash Mansion. The Meltdowns are in Brooklyn at the Charleston Bar.

Friends,I've got some fun news. We're doing two shows this weekend. The first is on Friday the 29th (leap year day) at the Charleston Bar, in Brooklyn, right off the Bedford stop on the L train. Free show at an awesome bar (free pizza with your booze), starts at 10pm, and features our friends The Press and The Imperialists. On Saturday night we're rocking Buddie's Tavern in Parlin, NJ with SixToEightMathematics and Mazeffect, another pair of great bands, which will be a lot of fun. The World is Sinking - and will go under at 9 pm tonight

OK, since I haven't been able to get my blog out before Babyhole (tonight @ 9pm).
This one is just for you, Mellisa, sweet Gynocult Leader.

Babyhole, is a not-for-poets open mike comedy night. There is usually a musical guest, and she also books comdians whom range from stand up to sketch.

As a special incentive to the ladies, Mellisa is throwing in a secret prize (most likely a pregnancy kit from the 99 cent store) for the first female open mike performer. (see message below)

BabyHole has been running since September and no woman has ever signed up for the open mic. Just guys who don't seem to get laid.So the first lady to sign up for BabyHole Open Mic (for stand up, sketch and musical comedy) will win a prize. I don't know what yet, but it will probably include a bottle of champagne that I'll be forced to drink by myself if no woman signs up by 9:30 pm.

Don't worry about Mellisa drinking alone though, word on the street is that she has a bun in the oven.

Flaming Fire has just released a new CD titled Kentuky Shroud. Armed with a new line-up the band puts practice to the test on Friday Night at Union Pool in Brooklyn. And on Saturday American Watercolor Movement and the Dragons of Zynth help celebrate the new CD at Maxwell's. Headliners, The Dragons of Zynth are a fierce Psych Rock Band. Come early the line-up is all good.

Inside the city line, Punk Rockers Guilt Trip play the Iron Monkey with the Meltdowns playing at the Lamp Post. On Sunday Night Mikey V-M (American Watercolor Movement and Sophelia) plays an acoustic set at Janam. Bowling For Dollars : A Preservationist History

OK, I think I've drummed this up enough, but we are having a Bowling Party Fundraiser for the St. Matthew's Food Pantry on Sunday. In addition to some live pin setters, there will also be live music by Any Day Parade, The Poconos, and DJ Cat Juggler. The Bowling takes place at Barrow Mansion, (83 Wayne Street btwn Jersey and Barrow) where in the 1890'ss two bowling lanes were built. Come and bowl for a great cause. $10 and also feel free to bring some canned goods and or non perishables for the Food Pantry.

First, Tonight I am back DJ'ing at the Lamp Post. Yep, it's been many a month since I have had a night to myself. I'll be dressed in RED for the Chinese New Year. The rest of you rats come as you are since it is your year :). My Roomate DJ Bill McCamie is at Bar Majestic. Tonight is also the ART HOUSE at Art House Production. This spoken word event is hosted by St. Patrick. Finally, The always impeccable dressed Lismore is playing at Rebel as part of Fashion Week. The event is Free with RSVP and has a one-hour open bar.

58 hosts our first opening of the season this Friday with White Washed : A Look at American Revisionist History. Orlando Reyes, Ian Kaulii, and Josef Cooper all explore some untold truths through mixed media pieces. Dr. Shakes and D2 will have audio-visceral display as well. The Opening starts at 7 pm. Also that evening, is Raggae Night featuring Rolando Ramos and Dreadeye (Reggae Sound and a Guitar Battle at the Sound Lounge (Jordan's on Newark) hosted by Dwana at 7 pm.

On Saturday, the Grass Roots Art Facility host and art opening for Gordon Fraser. You can check out a preview on Underdevelopment TV, a new site recent launched by Colin Comstock, who has filmed many an event here in JC. The art opening on Saturday, starts at 7 pm. runs until 10 pm. The Funeral Crashers play a Galapago's in Williamsburg at 11 pm. Before hand the Garden State Roller Girls are hosting a orientation of sorts for their new recruits. Hazing I mean crazying will take place Hell's Kitchen Lounge in Newark, NJ (map it!) at 8pm.

On Sunday, _gaia studio in Hoboken is having a Clothes swap-o-rama fund raiser at the place for their Threads Exhibition at the Jersey City Art Museum on February 24th. After you get a nice outfit, please come by for bowling fundraiser at Barrow Mansion. Then after bowling join Chuck D and Brett as anti-monday Sunday's returns to Jersey City via the Lamp Post. Monday, The Bryan Benninghove Trio Returns to the Lamp Post for Jazz Night. On Tuesday, Greg D's Lunar Ensemble plays at the Saint in Asbury Park. Here in JC. The Debut of Poetic Voices takes place at the Grass Roots Arts Facility. Many spoken wordsmith will be there with I believe an opportunity to read your own material. Therese is DJ'ing tonight at the Lamp Post with Street Justice behind the bar.

On Friday, which is now today, you can fly our to California and check out Chico Mann. If you don't have access to a plane, you can float over to the Lamp Post and CHeck out the Country Stylings of Any Day Parade and The Poconos. These two bands are also playing the Bowling Party Fundraiser we are having at Barrow Mansion on Sunday Febrauary 10th.

Saturday Night's Music calender has both Ape Fight and Surf Rocker's the Coffin Daggers playing. The Coffin Daggers are part of a surf brigade at Otto's Shrunken Head. Ape Fight will be at the Knitting Factory. JMeanwhile, back at the Lamp Post, the House of Leaves plays with Hunters, Run !

Alright once Friday and Saturday are fully extinguished, we can get past all of the two weeks of Superbowl trivial news stories and get to the Game and more importantly the Superbowl Tailgate Party at 58. Here's how things will work. Dress your best and bring a cooler with beer and/or a lawn chair to sit on. We'll supply the wings, and other deep friend goodnesss to eat. The Super (Karaoke) Bowl Fun Time Band will be performing a special half time show ala The will delight Even the Losers (tba). The Pre game festivites start around 4 pm.

The New You Review

Wow! who would have believed the Eddie Murphy was related to Nostradamus, I knew this movie had more potential, I'm not sure about Eddie though .

We'll be hosting a Tailgate Party at 58 for the Superbowl. We'll are going to set up things ala Youth Center Style; We'll have board games and maybe some championship paper football tables. We even have a special halftime show that Even the Losers would Enjoy.

Shine up your shoes and balls for a bowling party fundraiser for the St. Matthew's Food Pantry. Things roll on the Sunday after the Superbowl, February 10th. Any Day Parade and The Poconos Will be on hand to add some country friend music for the evening. $10 donation, more info to follow. How about I get to the here and now though. Tonight Eric Fuzzco is the guest DJ at the Lamp Post tonight. Get there early, he is already promising to play it all. On Thursday DJ Snack Attack plays it out and then, the self proclaimed "best dj in Jersey City" DJ Caligula rocks the Friday Night. Saturday Night. Shell Shag and WJ and the Sweet Sacrifice play it out on a event filled Saturday.

I will be DJing the SOLD OUT Winter Ball. The event is a fundraiser for Art House Productions Theater Programs. There may be some last minute openings so dress your best black tie creative. While I am sipping on champagne in pools of hob nob. Just across the way. Toyeaters will be hosting a Punk Rock Show $5 suggested donation . black leather creative :)

This Thursday Jupiter One plays at Bowery Ballroom. This is a big show and big deal for them. On Sunday, WJ and the Sweet Sacrifice play a fundraiser at Bowery Ballroom as well. On Tuesday Night, the Orion Experience opened up for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Go Jersey City Bands.
On Friday Night, Boy/Girl and the Gay Blades play at Asbury Lanes. You can take the train down there if you have no car. Also The Meltdowns have their CD release Party at the Clash Bar in Clifton.
If you didn't make it to the ball on Saturday Night, you can still be a Star on Sunday Night. Artist Izzy has an opening at 7 pm.

The Skyline should have a limit

One of the benefits of the fire that destroyed a portion of the mural on Columbus Ave, is that since the building had to be demolished, you can now more sky, in fact you can see straight through to Newark Avenue now. It's not that I hate tall buildings, but I hate large signs advertising luxury condos and rentals, if the buildings where unique and not so overpriced, maybe we would see curtains in the windows instead.

Tonight, the planning board hears round two of the Toll Brothers plan to capture more skyline and obtain a variance on the Power House Arts District zoning. This plan is opposed by the Power House Arts District Neighborhood Association. The meeting is at 5:30 pm at the Middle School on Bright Street. you can read more information at http://www.padnajc.org/. The Planning board is going to make a final decision on this proposal tonight, so if you can make this meeting it would be very helpful.

I am going since my parents have always expected me to run for President, I better go take some notes.

While the nation decides who get to sleep at the White House next. A simpler choice can be made this evening as the JC Rocker Party will have their weekly convention at the Lamp Post. DJ Hopefuls Neil "Eggs" McAnney battles Billy Alpha on the deck. Expect real albums. This ain't a digital throw down. Starts at 10 pm.

On Friday, Chicco Mann plays Southpaw with Chin Chin and DJ Rich Medina. It's an underground dance party, so make sure you don't get buried !! Saturday we have the closing party for John Besantes' Women of Color Exhibit. DJ Nugyen spins from 7 to 11 pm. Afterwards, the Porchista's are playing at the Lamp Post

I cried last night too, but that was only because I accidentally watched the last 5 minutes of "how to loose a guy in 10 days" take it easy Hillary you have another month to loose the nomination.

Speaking of cry babies, my favorite baby, babyhole is this evening at Toyeater's and Melissa has compiled an all star class of clowns to unveil her 2008 calender. Don't worry that it is the first week of January chances are you've been wasting it away like me so far. The Coffin Daggers start the night at 9 pm, then it's John F. O'Donnell, Sean Patton, Rosie Rebel, Ben Lerman, and Jessica Delfino. Afterwards the mike open for all you wanna bees.

Beforehand, stop by City Hall Rotunda Gallery for an art exhibit featuring Karen Carattini and 25 artists from cWOW (City Without Walls) There are too many to list (see below) or just come by at 6 pm and see it all.

Happy New Life

Thanks to everyone who came out to both Jayne's Birthdays Party at the Firehouse on Friday the 28th, and those of you who made it out to Maxwell's and 58 for New Year's Eve. The only tragedy of the evening was paying $20 for a cab ride from Maxwell's to Jersey City. That and cleaning up for 4 and a half hours on New Year's Day.

Unless I hear otherwise, this weekend is going to be pretty quiet in JC. Update, I have heard some new information :

that's right!!!this band fuggin' rocks. that's all i gotta say. trust me on this. reminds me of rye coalition, motorhead, and ac/dc...with some of the sickest double drumming i've ever heard OR seen. the two drummers share a base drum and play face to face....it's gotta be seen and heard....the show is free. livin' is easy. SEE YOU THERE, JERSEY CITY!

But tonight has some stuff to offer. DJ Bill McCamie is at Bar Magestic and DJ Cat Jugler is at the Lamp Post. Speaking of the Lamp Post, Tuesday Night DJ's will be on hiatus until the weather warms up. Friday and Saturday Nights are going to be band nights as well.
