Hi, guys. I will be playing at Monkeytown in Williamsburg on Wednesday, September 5, at the businessman’s-special hour of 7:30 PM. This will be a (mostly) solo show, but I’ve got some guest stars lined up, too.

Charles Bissell of the Wrens will once again be providing the entertainment portion of the evening. This time around, he won’t be alone; Overlord will be doing a set, too. I’ll be playing synths for Overlord at this performance, so prepare yourself for a double-shot of me. Interesting note for Brooklyn rock aficionados: Sarah “BrockettBrockett of Palomar will be on bass at this show, and Matt “Matt HouserHouser, who used to play in Palomar, will be the Overlord drummer. It’s also George “The Overlord Himself” Pasles’s birthday. I’m looking forward to it.

Monkeytown is an unusual venue. The musicians play in the center of a large, square hung with gigantic video screens; audience members sit on sofas against the walls. Dinner is served during the performances. You’re expected to buy something, and you can get drinks if you like, but the food is actually very good. They do lots of film and theatre there, and occasionally open the doors to live music. Seating is limited, the club requires a reservation, and the music and video shows don’t begin until everybody is in the live room. It’s an experience. I’ll send out another announcement in a few weeks, but if you’re sufficiently intrigued and you’d like to reserve a seat,
you can do so through the Monkeytown site. You don’t have to pay anything to make a reservation – you just give your name.

Here are the particulars, in wallet-sized cut-out format:

3 out of 5 ain't bad, good dog needs home

Here's a Trust Your Struggle Story in the Jersey Journal.
The closing party is on Saturday September 8th.

Alright, we have recovered 3 of the 5 stolen mopeds. A special thanks to Henning who called me up on Monday. He had spotted someone on of the two stolen yellow mopeds, I called the cops and sure enough they stopped a kid the next day riding one without a helmut, plates, a license. This was one of the jewels of the collection, so even paying $120 to get it out of the impound lot was worth it. If you do see someone riding another yellow one, please offer the kid $120 and I'll pay you back. I would tell you to just steal the bike back, but with my luck it will be a diferent yellow moped ?

Carla & Kathleen (World of Balance) found a sweet dog, currently named Honey, strange enough, we had actually tried to pick it this dog by the impound lot. Honey is currently staying at my place, but only for a short time. She's about 1 1/2 years old, has her shots and has been spayed. She's is good socially and looks like this. email me at asusco@smithmullin.com

Tony,If I find a motherfucker on one of ur bikes I'll lynch the motherfucker. Will do my best to be on the lookout.I'm promoting an event next Saturday, August the 25th at a bar called Caesar's in my neighborhood. It's open to the public. I have Steff spinning and Luke from the Corkscrew on the bar. I'm trying to get as many people to this thing as possible. It's really important because the bar is in the Lafayette (near Liberty State Park Light Rail) section of JC and we've been trying to bring Downtown people here since a few of us moved here a couple of years ago. The neighborhood is Rock N Roll Central and we're getting a chance to build an impression. It's the only area in JC right now that is kinda new.More and more people are moving here and we wanna do this shit right. Would you mind posting it in your events blog thingy? I'll give the info if you're down. -Peter

Hey everyone,I've been taking this month off of comedy stuff to focus on scraping a living together off of my shitty freelance writing jobs. But in September, BlackHole will start up again on the 26th, BabyHole will premier on the 4th, and Sweet Face, Sour Puss will happen at least once. Also, my Kitten Recipe Poster will be done. And maybe some other posters of me being sexy. If you want one, it would make me happy if you could put an order in now.About BabyHole:BabyHole Open Mic is going to be the best open mic in Jersey City and it's for everything BUT poetry. And I'm booking the featured musicians and comedians now. So if you want to be a featured musician or comedian, let me know, and tell your friends. It's going to be on Tuesday nights at Toy Eater's Studio. It will start off with the featured music act, and end with the featured comedy act, with about an hour in between of open mic slots.I love you,Melissa Surach

I'll take my Rock Well Done

Someone stole 5 mopeds on Wednesday Night from Grace Church on Second Street and Erie. 3 were mine call me @ 917-219-9696 if you saw anything around 11:50 pm . One of them was spotted @ 11:50 pm on second street between Jersey and Coles. They may have head down passed Lucky 7's around midnight.

Thank you to everyone who came out last Friday's art opening for the San Fransico and New York Graffiti artists, Trust Your Struggle Collective's Of Love and Riots . This is truly an awesome display. Even a guy like myself, who freezes when I hold a paintbrush, was throughly engrossed. The night did take an unsual turn when a friend of ours got lightheaded and fainted. Being concerned about his safety we called an ambulance. But just for the record ;

1. No one overdosed.
2. No one set themselves on fire.
3. No one was shot, stabbed, or kidnapped.
4. No one threatened to set themsleves on fire, and then kidnapped someone who was overdosing, so he stabbed him and then an alien came and shot him.
Here's exactly what heppened (just press play)

Okay so if you didn't get to see the show, you can come by on Saturday Noon to Six to see it, or you can come on Sunday at 2 pm for our Rock and Broil BBQ with Olde Ghost, Water Under Water, and Savu Sea to check it out. $5 Suggested donation, BYOB OK, we'll have Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, and Veggies to eat, with a fixin's bar the would make Roy Rogers Proud. If you can't wait for teh bbq to be ready, Holy Rosary Church's Festa Italiana is happening on 6th street until Sunday. Ciao.

Speaking of Rumors, American Watercolor Movement really brought down the house at Gallery Aferro in Newark, for their art. music, film presentation of 1938. The performace was actually cut short when the sprinkler pipes mounted to the ceiling below our floor gave way. This Saturday's show will take place on the first floor. The show starts at 8pm. the band also plays Luna Lounge on the 19th and Maxwell's on the 22nd with Toshack Highway and Hopewell. Gallery Aferro is 73 Market Street. Here's a write-up from the Daily Newarker.
Afterwards, come by Toy Eaters Studio for a little get it together. Myself and Johny Astronuat are on the decks.
Also Rumor has it that a new Rock and Roll bar is opening on next Saturday the 25 Saturday. DJ Street Justice opens it up.

Okay if you haven't heard, The Roller Derby girls had to cancel this Friday's Bout against the Pocono's High Rollers. Rumor has it....... Equally exciting, but with less fishnets, is Jupiter One's Record Release Show at the Mercury Lounge. And if you want actually be a part of the recording process, check out Bryan Benninghove's recording party on Thursday Night in Hoboken. If you do visit our northern brothers and sisters in Hoboken, you can alos bid farewell to Cult Hero's Huma, and watch Lismore and Where's Alaska and Crayon Rosary at Maxwell's . Down South, as in New Brunswick, Greg D (Sounds of Greg D) plays with an all-star cast at The Court Tavern. Say hello to the door guy for me. There's more live music that I have listed in the "daily flights" sections. Please check it out.
On Monday Night. The Mary Bensen Gallery is open with a display of Peruvian Artists, whom must have all affected by the recent earthquake in Peru. The opening itself was at the Peruvian Emabassy last week before the Devastaion. I don't knwo if there will be any formal donations for survivors but hopefully there will be something. I'll find out and update. The Mary Bensen Gallery is 369 3rd Street (by Brunswick)

For those of you who do not wish to compete with Labor Day traffic, Shangri-la will take place on Saturday September 1st. I am working with the city to close down Coles Street. The event is a fundraiser for the Grace Van Vorst Church Homeless Breakfast Program. If your band is interested in performing, shoot me an email asusco@smithmullin.com

Oh by the way, Cootah did a great job at hosting JC's Record and Art Fare at 58. We'll have another in a couple of months again. Thanks again Cootah and Brian and all of the tablettes.

-Peter

Interesting note for Brooklyn rock aficionados: Sarah “Brockett” Brockett of Palomar will be on bass at this show, and Matt “Matt Houser” Houser, who used to play in Palomar, will be the Overlord drummer.

It's News too.......Me

I just called my parents up to give them the news that I was in the Jersey Journal (thankfully not in the Death Notices or Crime Section.) I didn't mention to them that I was quitting my job, I saved that for next week's family dinner. But yes, I am leaving my job at the Law Office to make a full pursuit out of full time second carreer, which used to be part time but will now move officially into full time status.

First, I have made some changes to my blog. Events that happen every week are now listed under the "Daily Flights", and what I'll try to do is just highlight events by day. For instance, tonight I will be back on my DJ shift @ The Lamp Post. I have also started "Future Missions" listings for upcoming events. By the way, I'll be working on my crappy layout next.

The Impulse's final show before Adam goes back to college will be Thursday Night @ Hank's Saloon in Brooklyn. Cheap Drinks and teh prospect that Adam is moving away, will most likley lead to great amounts of unspeakable behavior as well as a fine rock show. If you pass the outdoor bbq you've gone to far.

This Friday we have San Fransico and New York Graffiti artists, Trust Your Struggle Collective, taking over 58. Their works will fill the walls through the front gallery into the back room. We'll reveal the show this Friday from 7 to 11pm. DJ's Johny Paycheck and King Tres will spin for you. Also Ape Fight Plays at the Knitting Factory, the Super Karaoke Fun-Time Bands plays The Corkscrew, you sing after 10 pm., and No Pasaran plays at the Iron Monkey. Also, the Outside is playing at the Sound Lounge @ Jordan's Lounge on Newark Ave.

Also on Friday, Toy Eaters Sudio is having reception from 8 to 11 pm for Recent Paintings and Installation by Thomas John Carlson, acoustic performance by Joel Friedrich of Water under Water

On Saturday August 11th , American Watercolor Movement takes over Gallery Aferro in Newark, for the art. music, film presentation of 1938. The show starts at 8pm, a second show will be on the 18th and the band also plays Luan Lounge on teh 19th and Maxwell's on the 22nd with Toshack Highway and Hopewell. Gallery Aferro is 73 Market Street. Here's a write-up from the Daily Newarker

On Sunday, 58 is hosting our first Record and Craft Fair. Tables contact Cootah@gmail.com about renting a table for the event. I'll most likely need some help with Volleyball this week and next. Because we are planning a Rock and Broil BBQ for Sunday the 19th. Currently, Water under Water , Savu Sea are confirmed to play.

The Residue Art Gallery is available as an art work/live space. $1,500 a month (plus utilities - negotiable) Contact Jon Besante @ 201-420-0202.

Dirty Details for all events

We said that you might get one more chance to see The Impulse before Adam moves to the beach. I’m pleased to report that we came through…

The Impulse (going away show)
Hank’s Saloon ( 46 3rd Ave @ Atlantic in Brooklyn )
Thursday, August 9, 2007 (that's this thurs)
10 pm (we’ll probably play at 11)

Shows at Hanks are always a riot. The Impulse is recommending that you take off of work the next day to recover. +++ In other news:
We’re releasing a double A-side 45 with Arm the Girls/Run & Hide on Deranged Records. We’ll keep you posted on a release date.

Jeff

Oh, it just keeps getting more out of hand...it's like these mannequins have lives of their own!

Last week's Gingham-O-Rama was just insane, with the swimsuit/apron bombshell and Little Bo Peep kidnapping a small child off the street and the firemen feeding ice cream to Jailbait...

WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT??!

Well, all we can tell you is that we have a couple of Jailbait's friends coming in as mannequins tomorrow and they'll look fabulous with their hair by Balance and fashions from World of Style. So grab some ice cream from Tocino's next door or grab a glass of wine on us and get a load of the hijinx in our window!

If you want a taste of what the fuss is all about, take a look at our
Myspace slideshow!

Toy Eaters Studio
"internet" posting #1
8/07/07

Thank you to those who've attended. Thank you to the curious. Thanks to the musicians, artists, staffers, and general crazies who have been lending they're talents thus far. You are all appreciated, and our appreciation runs deeply.

Our toy eatin' trio has finally emptied our pockets of all random bits of paper, collected all the beer soaked bar napkins, and collated the spare bits and bytes of digital info flow, into one glorious pile of "those who are interested." We were left with a jumble of e-mails, phone numbers, and various pieces of offensive graffiti. And now we're putting them all to use.

...for those who haven't heard...

-NAME- Toy Eaters Studio

TheDanger, Lady Circus, Mean Red Productions RaindDanceNYC and the Hungry March Band invite you to:
LowDownTown
Another late-night adventure at SpiegelTent Pier 17 @ South Street Seaport : Manhattan This Saturday, August 11th : 11pm to 5am : $10
Details:
http://www.lowdowntown.com
Spiegel Tent is the world's most beautiful traveling venue. Imagine, magic and stained glass, smooth dance floors and decadent nooks within an antique performance tent set against breathtaking views of the Brooklyn Bridge.
The Famous Spiegeltent is the very essence of "kabaret salon" - an intimate traveling concert hall first built in the 1920's. Like every old theatre, her ghosts travel with her, woven into ballooning velvet canopies, circular teak dance floor and stained, cut-glass windows. Her intimate booths, ornate bar and beveled mirror columns hold a million secrets.
It must be experienced to be believed.
This Saturday, we have been invited back to host a late night escapade of wicked performance and dj dance bliss.
Featuring:
The Hungry March Band:
In their first party appearance after a successful European tour. The march band storms the pier at 12am with their inescapable mix of anarchist brass band antics. It's music made for sultry summer nights with the majesty of the Manhattan skyline providing our dramatic backdrop.
The Lady Circus:
Expect a performance riot of beauty and danger with side show circus acts, stilt walking sexual innuendo and indelicate moments of grandeur as the Lady Circus sets their unique brand of spectacle against the open-air beauty of the Spiegel Garden pier.
In the tent the DJ's start after 1am:
Fancy, the dj and producer of FannyPack lifted off the schoolyard dance sound that has swarmed the world. He has produced beats with heavy hitters from Wyclef Jean to the Baja Men and promises to bring the most gloriously sweaty dance mix to the smooth Spiegel Tent floor.
DJ Bruce Tantum of Brooklyn Radio brings in the sunrise with a dark mix of dancey house and classic selections.
All night long on the pier, Chris Annibel of Afrokinetics spins an extended set of culturally diverse beats from afrofunk, house, broken beat to soulful dub along with Amon on live percussion.
Plus, spontaneous acts of majesty by Akim Funk Buddha, Hookahs from Winkel Presents and exotic drinks at the SpiegelTent bar.
This Saturday, August 11th
11pm to 5am : only $10 : Strictly 21+
You must mention *LowDownTown* for entry.
The Spiegel Tent is on the north side of Pier 17 @ South Street Seaport : Manhattan
Take 2, 3, 4, 5, J, Z, or M to Fulton Street; A and C to Broadway-Nassau. Walk east on Fulton Street to the East River.

Deny Everything- Plexiglas paintings by B. Musikoff

August 11 through September 15th the walls of Maxwells are hosting 20 images which illustrate a strong discontent associated with the cultural phenomenon of assimilation and xenophobia that New York City and it's surrounding areas have underwent. The safety of familiarity is challenged by unsettling juxtaposition presented on 24 x 30 pieces of Plexiglas which are painted entirely with latex matte opaque colors.

Brian Musikoff, 35, received his BFA in Animation and Illustration from The School of Visual Arts in 1995. As a direct result of the laborious process of animation cel painting he began experimenting with vinyl paints applied to the back of glass in large format over 10 years ago. All pieces shown in Deny Everything were created in 2007.
