A License for Special Entertainment

Friends,

Thanks to everyone who came out for last night's All Jersey Edition of Blackhole. If you haven't checked out JC's only comedy night, you'll have to self-medicate yourself until the next Blackhole on July 25th.

Okay let me start with some bad news, we had to unfortunately postpone Shangri-la until August 18th and 19th. The city is requiriing that we now get a Special Entertainment License for the event. With the prospect of having the event shut down in progress, we feel the best course would be to get the permit and then blow the eff out of it. Save the dates, make sure your bathing suit is clean too.

We are still going to open the gates on Saturday to clear things out for Shangri-la and since Mission Organization also refused our appeal for help. Gate opens at 11 am, come by for some extra ordinary miscellaneous stuff.

Reduce is at The JC Museum Tonight and the Hove is at DC's Tavern. Indigo Hue closes @ the Mary Benson Gallery tomorrow night Johny Astronaut in DJHQ.

Also tomorrow, you have a host of JC bands to see play. Of course if decide not to go see american watercolor movement, sounds of greg d, kilsy, and teh emergency party at the New Luna Lounge. You can check out The Subway Surfer's at Otto's Lounge or Water Under Water, the Meltdowns, and Up the Empire @ The Clash Bar in Clifton. Tris McCall play double duty on Saturday night @ Maxwell's. First playing solo works and then with Kapow!. He will be able to say that he openned ip for the Fiery Furnance's Twice. www.maxwellsnj.com

Good morning!
A big THANK YOU for those who came out to the opening reception of REDUCE! It was a really good time!
Many of the one-of-a-kind artist made tote bags sold during the silent auction in a fierce bidding war, Chef Jade served up some fine food and topped it off with some amazing disappearing oatmeal raisin cookies!
People are blogging about them! Bag the Habit tote bags flew off the shelves-did you get one?...I'll get into all the details of the show in the next online issue of the "A List!" including photos and links. If you have not seen the exhibit we have regular gallery hours:
Thursday-Saturday 3-8PM and by appointment. For appointments at other times please call 201.209.0544 and check out http://www.bagthehabit.com/
Until then, I've got an update of "A List!" events...
ALL REDUCE EVENTS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
This Thursday, June 28th at 6PM the Jersey City Museum hosts the creative team behind REDUCE as we screen the short film LANDFULL and discuss the concept and message of REDUCE: A design based exhibition for the conscious consumer. REDUCE is an exploration of common consumer behaviors and their impact on the environment. The exhibition fuses the traditional models of retail store, art gallery and informational display and draws on a variety of mediums including LANDFULL.

Hey, Who REALLY cares about Friday mornings anyway????? This is last minute, but we were asked to perform at this Penthouse in Tribeca Thursday night! (June 3)
Apparently the guy throwing this event is a photographer....(no Liv, but lots of pretty people). I would also like to point out it IS a Penthouse.....not a party FOR Penthouse (magazine)....so if THOSE are the type of models you wish to hang with;... perhaps a trip to your
local Deli will suffice. (you can grab some Boone's Farm while yer
there and make a night of it)

If you want to hang with US however, it's OPEN BAR! (10-Midnight) We go on at 11.
http://www.studio7.com/
The ticket is $20, but we wouldn't do it if we didn't think you could drink more than that :)

Having read all about Guy, Bruno is aware thatthe tennis player is trapped in an unhappy marriage to wife Miriam(Laura Elliott) and has been seen in the company of senator's daughterAnn Morton (Ruth Roman). Baiting Guy, Bruno reveals that he feelstrapped by his hated father (Jonathan Hale). As Guy listens withdetached amusement, Bruno discusses the theory of "exchange murders."Suppose that Bruno were to murder Guy's wife, and Guy in exchange wereto kill Bruno's father? With no known link between the two men, thepolice would be none the wiser, wouldn't they? Ingenious theory – butwill Guy go along? When he reaches his station, he bids goodbye toBruno, apparently thinking nothing more of the affable but peculiaryoung man and his homicidal theories. But then, Guy's wife turns upstrangled to death.Hitchcock's favorite devices of an ordinary man caught in anever-tightening web of fear and of evil lurking just below theseemingly placid, benign surface plunge Guy into one of the director'smost fiendishly effective movies. Ordinary Washington locations becomesinister hunting grounds that mirror perfectly the creeping terrorthat slowly consumes Guy, as the lethally smooth Bruno relentlesslyprods and him to a frenzied climax. The film includes some of Hitchcock's most famous visual set piecessuch as the scene at a tennis match in which the heads of all thespectators are moving back and forth to follow the game – except forBruno's, which is fixed on Guy. And there's the famous sequenceinvolving a runaway merry-go-round, on which Guy and Bruno struggle asa carnival worker crawls on his stomach under the revolving ride toget to the controls. (This shot was famously un-faked, and the stuntman could have been killed; Hitchcock said he would never take such achance again.)Granger and Walker couldn't be more perfect for their roles. Grangeris handsome and athletic but seems easily put-upon. And Walkerbeautifully embodies the sinister wacko who truly believes he's doingsomething great. The screenplay was co-written by none-other than Raymond Chandler, with Czenzi Ormonde, adapting it from a novel by Patricia Highsmith.Fast, exciting, and woven with wicked style, this is one ofHitchcock's most efficient and ruthlessly delicious thrillers.Breakfast at Tiffany'sBlake Edwards may have directed Breakfast at Tiffany's, andscreenwriter George Axelrod certainly did a splendid job of adjustingTruman Capote's novel for the screen, but from the first moment AudreyHepburn steps out of a cab with her coffee and danish and window shopsat Tiffany's after a night on the town, this is her movie, and it'sall but impossible to imagine another actress in the role. Beyond hertremendous charm and buoyant comic timing, Hepburn manages to makeHolly Golightly at once resilient and fragile, a woman who knows herway around Manhattan but still hasn't figured out how not to be hurtby the world around her -- it would have been easy to make Holly seemflighty and annoying, but in Hepburn's capable hands she's anadorable, jaded innocent whose hipster façade and oft-stated desire tomarry a wealthy man never quite disguises her need to be loved and tobelong. As Paul Varjak, Holly's neighbor, friend, confidante, andeventual boyfriend, George Peppard is almost a bit too strong andsolid -- he seems a mite stiff much of the time -- but he plays welloff of Hepburn, and knows enough to stay out of her way. Patricia Nealis spot on as Paul's cheerfully cynical "sponsor," and Buddy Ebsen issuperb in a brief turn as the former husband of the former Lula MaeBarnes (and could anyone blame him for wanting her back?). However, between Edwards' frothy pacing, Franz F. Planer's lovely locationcamerawork, and Henry Mancini's memorable score, Breakfast atTiffany's is a thoroughly charming and witty valentine to one specialwoman and the city she loves that still enchants more than 40 yearsafter it first hit the screen. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World – Saturday, June 9 at 7PM1963 – 175mins. – Color – United Artists. Predated the rating system, but is suitable for most audiences.Directed by Stanley Kramer.Starring an All-Star Cast, including: Spencer Tracy, Milton Berle, SidCaesar, Mickey Rooney, Buddy Hackett, Ethel Merman, Phil Silvers, DickShawn, Jimmy Durante, Buster Keaton, Jonathan Winters. With this all-star Cinerama epic, producer/director Stanley Kramervowed to make "the comedy that would end all comedies." At the veryleast, he made one of the most out-sized and unforgettable comediesever. The story begins with a traffic accident, caused by recklessdriver Smiler Grogan (Jimmy Durante), who, before (literally) kickingthe bucket, cryptically tells the assembled drivers that he's buried afortune in stolen loot, "under the Big W." The various motoristssetting out on a mad scramble include a dentist (Sid Caesar) and hiswife (Edie Adams); a henpecked husband (Milton Berle) accompanied byhis mother-in-law (Ethel Merman) and his beatnik brother-in-law (DickShawn); a pair of traveling buddies (Buddy Hackett and Mickey Rooney);and a variety of assorted nuts including a slow-wit (JonathanWinters), a wheeler-dealer (Phil Silvers), and a pair of greedycabdrivers (Peter Falk and Eddie "Rochester" Anderson). Monitoringevery move that the fortune hunters make is a scrupulously honestpolice detective (Spencer Tracy). Virtually every lead, supporting, and bit part in the picture is filled by a well-known comic actor: thelaugh-spinning lineup also includes Carl Reiner, Terry-Thomas, ArnoldStang, Buster Keaton, Jack Benny, Jerry Lewis, and The Three Stooges, who get one of the picture's biggest laughs by standing still anduttering not a wor

No More Project 001 Gallery??!
Well folks we always knew we couldnʼt have it forever and the time came to let go of our beloved Project 001 Gallery. The space was lent to us while vacant and waiting for a restauranteer to rent the space. We have held many exciting events there and am so grateful for having had a gallery for nearly a year to express our ideas and meet so many of you. RockSoup will still be using 001 Gallery for Special events but will no longer continue its bi weekly programming or hold regular gallery hours. This will allow us to focus more on our giant show at MFA and the Festafeniceʼ.

ROCKSOUP INCORPORATES?
Itʼs hard to believe that RockSoup is just under a year old , but itʼs true. RockSoup held itʼd first meeting on June 21st 2006. Some two months later we were working with Design Grace and NEW magazine on JCʼs first Creative Guide and then a month after that had our own gallery space. Now RockSoup has taken itself a step further and is in the process of incorporating so we can take advantage of all the wonderful things that go along with being legit. If there are any.
