I can not confirm, nor will I deny that Broken English, who is hosting Art House Production's : Art House - the original Spoken Word Assemblage this Thursday at 7 pm , and German Clip Art Man are related. I do believe, if we ask Clip Art Man on Friday, perhaps after some hapiweissen, he will attest to anything !!




Okay So what's going on with 58 ? I heard you guys ............................ are having an kick-off party on Friday ?

Yes, you are correct ! 58 will hold our annual JC Art Studio Tour Kick-off Party this Friday. JC Musician's The Coffin Daggers, WJ and The Sweet Sacrifice, and Lismore will be performing. DJ HotRod, Johnny Astronaut, Dancing Tony, and Special Guest will keep things moving. If you are unaware, The Mayor's Office passed an executive order permitting entertainment at all JC Art Studio Tour Listed Establishments. So if you have a studio, call up Radiohead and see if they want to play? This event will also be our closing party for Hiroshi Kumgai's Imposed Sanctity show. The exhibit will run through the entire weekend and will be replaced by our group show The Artemathician scheduled for next Friday. Things start at 8:30.

With over 200 artists being represented, you should/must visit the Official JC Art Studio Tour kickoff party sponsored by Pro Art and the Division of Cultural Affairs at Canco Lofts beforehand (6pm to 10pm) . Plus, the city has arranged for shuttle service from Journal Square and they have a bigger budget than we do. Drink them dry.

First, an new gallery opens at the space formerly occupied by Residue Gallery this weekend. es Oro Gallery opened with the help of Jill from Jill Kelly Swims. features a multi-medium art show. At the Mary Bensen Gallery, Earthscapes a Group Show, features art portraits of our Planet Almighty. Art House Productions, is hosting the Accumulation Project, and Kevin Spyker and the Railroad Gallery have got stuff, All floors of the 143 Columbus Ave (Toy Eaters Studio, The Lex Leonard Gallery) have stuff. The _gaia group has a show at Waldo Lofts and last but not least the annual 4Th Street Art and Music Festival will be showcasing live music, the Comedy of Melissa Surach, and a Guitar Battle as well as a all-band Jam. Cootah and I are hosting the after Dance Party at the Lamp Post too. That's not even close to everything.

Besides Celebrating the arts. The Bars have also taken time to make this weekend a time to remember, or at least try to remember. On Friday, Bar Majestic is holding a 2 block Oktoberfest. Lasting from 4 pm to midnight the event features beer and my Roommate DJ William McCamie DJ's. On Saturday 8 local Bars have gotten together for a JC Brews Cruise. or Pub Crawl. Check out The Lamp Post,Lucky 7's, Abbeys', The White Star, Pop Merigans for more info. The drinking starts at 1 pm on Saturday.

Musically, The Meltdowns are playing at Trash Bar in Brooklyn on Thursday Night. The Funeral Crashers have the CD release party at Crash Mansion in NYC on Friday Night. While Bongo Surf and the Lonesome Prairie Dogs play the Iron Monkey. On Saturday Night, Olde Ghost and Straight Jacket Mind are at the Monkey. After the weekend, The Gay Blades rock Maxwell's next Tuesday with The Meltdowns on a reprise.

Thanks for all the birthday messages last week. I am making a final push on extending my birthday party by djing at the Lamp Post tonight. Next Tuesday, my DPF (dance partner for life) Alix Nelson comes back to JC to make a special guest appearance. And for your calanders, mark the after party for the 4th Street Art and Music Festival on October 6th will be at the Lamp Post with me and Cootah on the decks.

Tonight, my funny girl, Melissa Surach hosts Babyhole at Toyeaters Studio. It's an open mike event that loves comedy and hates poetry, but must be torn between ironic poetry ? who knows ? So far, Melisa has recieved two death sonnets and one horrific haiku. I guess the pen is still mightier than the sword ?

On Thursday Night, JC's adoptees The Meltdowns play a free show at Otto's Shrunken Head in NYC.THere's a film screening at anthology film archive at 2nd/2nd in Manhattanat 8 pm. This weekend I will be away at a wedding. The Hudson County One-act plays are in Hoboken on Friday and Saturday. On Friday Night, Lismore plays at the Crashin in Party at Gallapagos. On Saturday Night, Toy Eaters is having a grand throw down with House of Leaves, Bi-Polar J and Water Under Water Performing. In addition to the music, they have 6 video games to swallow your quarters. DJ Johnny Astronaut will be spinning and Norm will make the room pretty with lights. The night is full of musical choicesm because Polyabuse and Tiger Wall Flip play the Iron Monkey and Gravitas plays the Lamp Post.

The Attic Ensemble is Presenting The Guys a play about teh developing friendship and love of a fire captain who must deal with the loss of several of his men and writer who helps him write eulogies for them. The play is based on a trues story and runs from 09-11 to the 09-16. http://www.atticensemble.org/

Tonight DJ Street Justice on at the Lamp Post. She celebrates her birthday at midnight (mine is on Saturday) a slew of Virgoness seems to rule the air these days with a million birthdays about. We had planned a dance party for tonight, but we'll have to save that for the weekend. I am stopping by after I see the Tribute of Lights and perhaps Melisa Surach, who is guest bartending at Pop Merrigan's tonight ? I think that means she gets free drinks.

On Wednesday, American Watercolor Movement plays the Knitting Factory, we are opening up for the Silver Apples, which is a big deal becuase we are playing in the main space and not the old coat room. Come early we are on at 8 pm sharp. Also in the City Greg D's project the Lunar Ensemble plays at the Bowery Poetry Club.

If you missed the two closing parties for Trust Your Struggle last weekend, you may be in shock we you find come Thursday when our new exhibit, Imposed Sancity by Hiroshi Kumagai opens. Hiroshi's work will be a mixture of his vinyl illustration along with new paintings. The art starts at 7 pm, plus we'll have a Jazz Ensemble performing as well. Speaking of Jazz, Brian Benninghove plays in Journal Square on Friday from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Later on Friday, the interteam rivalry of the Garden State Rollergirls will come to a boiling point as the JC Bridge and Pummel bouts with the Northern Nightmares. On Saturday, I'll be at a bachelor party. Don't worry mom, it's another paintball party. Saturday is also my birthday, which means I should be dancing somewhere. However, I really don't want to clean up after myself, so if you stop by 58 make sure you bring beer and paper towels. If I am not there, check the door for directions to the dance party

Sunday, I will be playing kickball/softball/ and volleyball at Aldo's Annual BBQ. I set up kickball, give me a call if you want in. We play with waterballoons so make sure you wear undergarments. My car leaves at 12:30.

Next Tuesday I will be DJ-ing at the Lamp Post - all Dancing Tony. Be there.

Inside – Outside joins in the 17th Annual Jersey City Artist Studio Tour (JCAST), bringing together art by local artists in two group exhibitions. The collaborative exhibitions highlight the work of twenty-eight artists and will serve to promote local emerging talent as well as raise awareness and advocacy of artists’ issues. Inside will feature work by: Aileen Bassis, Sherrard Bostwick, Jennifer Carpenter, Mary Jeys, Geraldine Juarez, Meg Klim, Vaneska (Kika) Kluck, Radical Performance Group (Sabrina Asch, Kristi Hall, Sofie Holten, Lauren Larken, Joanna Rose White), Kayt Hester Lent, Beth Morrison, Franc Palaia, Mike Schuwerk and Cristina Gil Donaire, Rachael Serbinski, Ev Stone, Chris Sugrue, Amanda Thackray, Stephanie Tichenor, Stephanie Werthman. Outside will feature work by: Nyugen Smith, Geraldine Juarez, Michele Loughlin, Ryan Higgins, and D.C. Smith. The month-long exhibition begins Friday, September 21st and runs through Saturday, October 20th; with an artist reception on Friday, September 28th 7-9pm, at 159 Second Street, in downtown Jersey City. The exhibition is part of the Jersey City Artist Studio Tour (October 6th & 7th) presented by Pro Arts and Jersey City Cultural Affairs. Each year hundreds of studios and supportive venues open their doors and artists display their work in various public venues with many events and live performances. The two-day event, which is free and open to the public, receives thousands of visitors. Inside - Outside will feature a diverse group of artists exhibiting painting, photography, sculpture, video, textiles, performance and more.
The multi-media exhibition at Waldo Lofts looks to explore how the notions of outside and inside can be interpreted in a multitude of social, aesthetic, political, personal, and economic dimensions. Bringing together a diverse number of artists from different backgrounds and artistic practices, the exhibitions look to examine the ways in which the threshold between ‘In’ and ‘Out’ can be employed as a means of identification, a divisive barrier, or a conceptual model. These explorations of space include examining the interior and exterior of home, the body, domestic, shared, private and public spaces as they relate to singular and common identities. Works in the exhibition will include a multitude of creative practices, including works that are interactive, site-specific, and appeal to multiple sensory experiences. The hope with this event is to support the artist community and Jersey City as well as encourage local artists by giving them a much-needed local venue to promo te themselves and their work.
Inside - Outside is being sponsored by Pro-Arts, a non-profit organization of professional artists dedicated to promoting the visual arts and communicating Jersey City's identity as a growing arts center; by The City of Jersey City, Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, The Jersey City Municipal Council, The Jersey City Department of Health & Human Services, Division of Cultural Affairs; and by the Fields Development Group.

Music is not Art

Thank You , Thank You, Thank You to everyone who came together to make Shangri-la a successful event. Even with the newly incorporated traveling aspect of the event, we managed to raise over $600 for the Grace Church Feed the Hungry Breakfast Program last Saturday. I wanted to especially thank Christine Goodman from Art House for letting us use their lovely space and the Lamp Post for hosting the last 4 bands and the dance party. Thanks to Norm for the lights, Ken for cooking. Orlando, Kayt, Tim and Joseph for reorganizing the garage. Brooks for helping with sound and finally , I'd also like to thank the Fire Academy for bestowing us with the Best Performance in a Unnecessary Drama Award.
